How 'bout the one they didn't show... "Congratulations President Tim Horton on your double double." That's the best...

Rick Mercer is great. Probably one of the best (political) satirists we have.

Florida's voting problem would never happen up here... we have the "Pine Cone / Birch Bark" system!

LOL i seen this when it first came out on 22 minutes, ****** awsome. Its kinda funny how little americans know about our country, even tho that we know alot about them.

Just one of my expierances:

AM: Hey how do you get the bottom of your rivers to look so blue.
My dad: Well you see, in the spring we dam every river and paint every rock with blue paint.
AM: Oh really! Thats so neat!

my mom did that to a japanese tourist when she worked/lived in lake louise!

She told them they drain the lake every year and paint the bottom green, lol.

talking to americans has always been awesome.

And ususally they're talking to university students, like wtf! They should know better.

Even canadians generally don't know as much about your political system as they do about the USA's. I bet if you polled 100 canadians all of them would know the president of the USA but not all of them would know our own prime minister's name.

it's kinda sad really

My wife and I were in Niagara on the Lake on our 1st anniversary and overheard a couple of American tourists say (refferiing to the war of 1812) "No wonder they lost the war". AHAHAHA!!!

WHO lost again??

My wife was ready to ask them "If we LOST, why aren't we AMERICAN??"

I had to physically restrain her!!

Ironically, it's the only war the U.S. ever lost.........

I think the point of the person who once said that to me was that America didn't really "lose" at Vietnam. They more just kinda gave up on it, whereas the War of 1812 they were wupped. Plus we even burnt down the White House and our Prime Minister was insane and drunk most of the time.

Which just made the tourists comment about US losing even funnier.

Anyways. I wasn't sure myself who our Prime Minister was. LOL.

heh its funny how ignorant we cdn's have become when it comes to our southern nieghbours. im sure we could go, to say, northern quebec or maybe some farms in the praries that dont have cable. they would be just a dence towards the USA as those folk on the vid. when you have hbo, fox,wb. why the heck would you watch our lame *** ctv! we dont offer most americans anything worth paying attention to. i wouldnt give a **** either. if 'rick habeeb' came from india and we congradulated them for something we have no idea about. yet they mocked us...

dont get me wrong, its gonna be a sad day when lloyd robertson quits!

We don't have to want to learn about america to have it's "culture" and history shoved down our throat.

I don't know about you guys, but when I was growing up, EVERY cartoon had at least one or two episodes dedicated to cartoon recreation of famous AMERICAN events.

I am a seriously patriotic Canadian, and yet I still know more about them than 90% of people in the 1st gen section know about us .

I not only know how *many* states they have, but I can name most of them, and their abbv. and a good number of their state capitals. And I've never been taught, or tried to teach myself this useless information.

I not only know what their flag looks like, but *why* they have "6 white stripes, 7 red stripes and a helluva lot of stars!".

I can name many american presidents of history just by looking at their portrait. *almost* as many as I can with Canadian prime ministers (however, with the Canadian ones, I can also tell you which bill they appear on )

I know when their "Indipendance Day" is, though you'd be hard pressed to find Americans who know when "Canada Day" is or what we call it.

"Yankee Doodle"... wtf? why can I sing that? Out, out of my head vile american song of idiocy.

And many many more little things that you don't even realize you've learned about them, until they show how ignorant they are aboot us.

I'm only comforted by the fact that I know *more* about Canada, even in the 'useless trivia' section of my brain than I do about the USA. Not to mention my love of hockey. It may be a small love, but it's enough.

*shudders* . That's it. I'm going to Tim hortons for a coffee and first thing in the morning it's poutine and beavertails for me. I've had too much americana for one night.

Jon

John, I'm surprised you make a stink about Tim Hortons, considering Mr. Horton himself was a player for the leafs

actually it was a song written to mock the Americans and their manner of dress, the food they ate, their lack of courage, etc.

The 'stuck a feather in his cap and called it Macaroni' was reference to the Macaroni club, a group of gents who would intentionally dress in the ugliest foppish fashion they could find and pretend it was the latest thing. For a Colonial to embellish his outfit and declare himself a member of the club would, it was implied, reveal that said colonial knew nothing of refined fashion.

There are other references to the singer being frightened and running home to hide in his mother's bedroom, a reference to perceived American cowardice.

et cetera, et cetera. But as with 'American Woman', americans hear themselves being sung about, don't realise they're being insulted, and repeat the song word for word.

Canadians know a lot more about the US than Americans know about Canada because the US presence is more pervasive in Canada than Canada's presence is in the US (by a factor of about 4). Without the US market to import from and export to, Canada's economiy would be very different. And since Canada depends on the US for much of its livelihood, it only seems reasonable that Canadians learn about the US people and their culture.

Your next geography and sociology lessons should be focused on China. They could be more difficult than the US experience.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it funny when Lenny Kravitz sang "American Woman". I caught that right away, and tried to explain the idiocy and irony of it to many of my friends. Who of course, didn't particularly care.

If you listen very very carefully at the end of one of the Guess Who versions, as it's fading out you can hear him say "American Woman, American ****" or something of the like. Now if that isn't supposed to be a mockery of the american woman, I don't know what is!

But I honestly didn't know that about the Yankee Doodle thing.

it was the U.S. government flexing its militarys muscle towards China and Russia (i think) and well, it was just a big screw up that cost too many lives......

and the U.S. relies on Canada alot mroe then people know, alot, a freaking lot of U.S. materials are made from Canadian Raw resourses, now i'm not saying we dont need them but they rely on us more then people know. think of Oil..... Think Fort MacMurry in Northren alberta, Shell, Esso and all the big players are investing like mad up there cause of the importance of it, Saudi Ariba does not have as much as we think, and when that gets low, guess where everyone is gonna come looking,

i personally think we should charge a bit more for the oil be taken out of Canada, atleats get some more money the goverment can screw round with, or consider it a "barganing chip" for if we want stuff form other countries, and the funny thing bout the U.S. is, if they tried to invade canada, they would not do so good, we have too many igloos to hide in (lol) and the U.S.'s main battle tank is too heavy for canadian roads and get stuff with them caving in. and cause our soilders are trained to a much higher level then the U.S., its funny hearing "War Game" stories, how the U.S. got raped and never knew what happened, i think the U.S. mainly relys in there strength in numbers, where as most other militaries rely on a high level of training....

my $0.02
