How long have YOU been having your FC
i have heard from ppl that FC is a car that it's hard to keep for long. so i am just wondering how long have you guys been keeping your FC in tune?
I have had mine for 6yrs now and I have smiled every kilometer of the way. Car had 46,500 kms when I bought it and now has 156,000 kms.
Regular maintenance is key for any vehicle. It helps if you only drive it in the summer and don't beat the **** out of it when you drive also.

Oil change every 3000km, keep it topped up since it actually injects oil into the engine.
flush coolant, change spark plugs when needed (somtimes pretty often), change wire, air filter, fuel filter, etc etc.

Same as above for me. Pistons or Rotors, clean oil is key for a combustion engine.
Not only to remove any dirt but also other impurities that will contaminate your engine oil if left too long.
3,000 km is a good number if you cherish your ride. Oil & Filters are relatively inexpensive and do wonders for the life of your engine.

Just make sure you don't do bandaid repairs. Do your regular checks of all the fluids and replace as necessary - that goes for things like fuel filters too. Wash/wax it often too - it prevents rust and peeling paint.
The key is to do a COMPLETE tune up at the start then keep on top of the maintenance.
People who don't keep the car long have usually fallen into one of two traps:
1) Bought the car thinking it was a honda.
2) Bought a car that was in **** condition to start with, and didn't do all the repairs.

Have been driving an FC for almost 4 years all year round, +30, -38 (started fine) doesn't matter. As others have mentioned, change the oil frequently and you'll be fine. Basic things such as good plugs,f ilters, belts and fluids work wonders for longevity. As Nick said, alot of people buy one in bad condition and expect a new car out of it. Then some of these people try doing mods and things go wrong. Just make sure you do all you can to bring it to like new condition first before doing mods.

Best thing to do:
1- buy rust free fc with blown motor
2-buy mint rebuilt engine
3-find some shmuck like me to do the swap in your driveway for nothing more than pop and some old parts.

6 years, 2nd motor, 2nd shell. First one had a blown motor, bought a rebuild, wrote off the shell (not my fault!) and put the motor in my parts car.
Maintenance and troubleshooting have been a breeze for the most part. I now do everything myself (sometimes with help.)
I don't want to own a piston car again after this, if I can avoid it. This car has been too easy (for the most part) to look after and has been too much fun to go back to quiet, rough, fragrant, flameless, boring pistons.

I've had my '91 FC for 8 going on 9 years now - been the most reliable (and most fun) car I've ever owned. Had 74,500km on it when I got it, now has 108,xxx. Bought a clean, never winter-driven sample that had had regular oil changes and maintenance, and have carried that on, with a good 2 stage wax (carnauba wax/sealer coat) 1 or 2 times a year to keep the original Sunset Red paint from fading or turning dull (which it is wont to do). It's a car that loves to rev, so I make sure it spends lots of time at redline, doing 12-15 autocrosses a year and the odd track day
I do try to make sure I don't run it hard and then shut it down without giving it some cool down time - I suspect that may be why I haven't had the driveability problems that occur when the rat's nest of vacuum controller hoses under the intake plenum gets brittle and develop leaks in the hoses.
