ON Hi All

It's been some time since I was on here last, a few years at least. I think it's time I come back on and relearn some things and ask some questions.

I'm looking to start working on my 12A 1985 RX-7. I haven't had much time or money in the past and would like to start working on the car again. The back story is that the car has been sitting for several years and needs lots of interior work and some exterior work. I guess I need to make sure that the body is solid and safe. What should I be looking for? Has the car been sitting too long?

I want to start working on the car this spring/summer. I'm in no rush and want to make sure I do this right and safe.

Any links to posts would be great. I will start going through the form to get info but just wanted to start here.

Thanks
-Sarita

Welcome back! On the 1st gen cars I would check for rust around the rear bins and wheel wells. You may have to take the bins right out of the back to see how bad the rust is. Also check for any other rust in any other structural part of the car. After that all checks out then you can worry about getting it running. Good luck!

Welcome back!

I'm sure all the 1st gen people will be coming out of the woodwork now.

Thanks Neo, I can't wait to get this show on the road. I've also started a new hobby end of last year so there is a bit of a learning curve, but I can't wait to work on the car, it's something that puts be back in my element at least ;-)

Hey sctRota, what kind of other part do you have left? I think I would need the passenger front fender and door... :-/ My car is sunbeam silver, but I can always re-paint the car.

I'm free tomorrow if you want me to come by and grab parts ;-)

welcome back to the forum!

You can ignore your RX-7, try and move on, but they're impossible to forget about. I'm still here and I'm sure someday I'm going to start working on mine again too.

Snap a few pictures of it and put them up here!

I took some pictures and have them in the album in my profile. I hope that I didn't take on more than I can handle, but I'm in no real rush. I just have the rx7 itch and want her up and running asap.

I have a sunbeam silver 85 that I may part ways with soon, you can want it let me know there is minimal rust on the chassis.
Otherwise goodluck with getting your 7 back on the road. I can`t stay away from them, I am obsessed and If I had a warehouse and nothing else to do, it would be filled with rotary power vehicles.
OMG did I just say that....

Welcome back! Always nice to see people get back into things after being away for a while.

When I first got into rx7s a decade ago, mine had been sitting for years. Here's an old thread I put together back then that might be useful if yours has been sitting without being used for a while:

Sorry, been really busy and just noticed that I left you hanging! I have a few doors to choose from. I have a two gutted doors and that I do not think they have rust on them. Also fenders, I have two pairs. I'm selling them tho as I need funds for stuff lol So pm me an offer!
And if your close by to me, you could drop in and check the parts out.
