I created this account 15 years ago when I had my RX-8, but today I join the club.
Say hello to my 2002 FD. Thanks to @nigel20b for the deal. The car is fairly fresh off the boat (literally) so there are still a few things to figure out, but it's generally in great condition.
Mod list that I'm aware of so far:
- Trust/GReddy Single Turbo: TD 06H-20G
- Unknown intercooler -- looks like a FMIC installed as a V with custom brackets.
- Midpipe (unknown, resonated but loud af)
- Exhaust (looks like HKS but no branding)
- Intake: Turbo Horn/Velocity Stack (slightly terrified there's no filter on this)
- Ogura clutch
- Strut tower brace
- Ohlins Coilovers
- HKS Boost Controller
- Billion Turbo Timer
- Battery relocated to trunk
- Apexi ECU
- Half roll cage
- Solid motor mounts (clearly it's been rebuilt based on this and high compression numbers)
Things to do next:
- Fix the starter. Needs the booster installed. (DONE)
- Battery isn't tied down properly. Just in an unsecured marine box.
- Relocate the catch can so I can swap the velocity stack for a proper intake. It's unlikely due to the location but I'd be terrified of something getting into the turbo.
- Add a highflow cat to quiet this thing down.
- Get it tuned
- Oil cooler upgrade
- Fix IC mounting, maybe switch it back to FMIC.
- Some paint touchups
- Rip out the tach, useless Japanese navi, and probably the turbo timer
Car is out for safety today, here's hoping things go well!
If you still have stock coils, be aware that Mazda changed the coil position order for later cars. Using the USDM FSM for guidance on attaching the harness and plug wires could lead to firing order issues (bang!).
