Don't what to say but I had an unfortunate day at the track today..there was some fluid on the track that was not cleaned off the racing line and I got on it and slid into the barrier backwards as i tried to save the car and my car is pretty much done for the season.

The rear quarter panel is done, both b-pillars are crumpled and my trunk floor is bent. Good news is that everything on the car is salvageable minus the rear bumper, rear lights, one sideskirt and obviously the shell. Im glad i had the roll bar in the car as it probably saved us from the full brunt of the impact. Walked away with a sore neck, bruised shoulder and clavicle. Glad we had our helmets on

I dont usually vent, but this sucks, I feel like **** and depressed and I just want someone to wake me up...

Thanks to Rich and Dave for the help with getting the car ready for the flat bed...and to the CDN forum, please let me know if you have an FD shell or know where I can get one....LHD or RHD (preferrably).

Thanks again.
Ken
Damn Ken, that is terrible. Glad to hear that you are OK though as that is what is most important.

Jim, I appreciate the support but I dont think anybody would have been able to see this. I trusted the "clean-up" hackjob that was done, I even took the precaution of going a little off the race line to avoid it but it happened..Theres no one to blame on this one, hell I even I know I didnt do anything wrong. I wouldnt be this upset if It was something I had control over.

Here are some pics: Just wanted to see what the opinion is whether I should pull the car (doubtful , she'll never be the same in my mind) or just go with the original plan and buy a shell.....or part out and just re-coup as much as I can as all the aftermarket parts I installed on her were untouched...

Its not even the money i may be loosing, but all the late/early nights that I spend alone in the garage with my ipod and the car...going in at 7pm and going for a **** break and seeing that it was now 5 am in the morning...its sooo depressing really...anyways here are the pics.

rear trunk floor folded:

c-pillars creased...

Ken,

You should really see the underneath of that car and it will help a lot with your decision(s). If you need to look at another FD just to compare and analyze...lmk. I'll bring mine.

that is a shame, that was a pretty car

I have a early rear bumper and right side rear 1/4 cut off of a car if it helps you. I probably have the inner bumper and stuff too but I may have thrown it out.

from the sounds of your crash though I bet you hit the left side?

My heart just sank, man. Reminds me of when I took mine into a BMW in the same spot. I pounded it out, replaced the bumper and painted and that was 4 years ago. I'm still hoping I have a garage one day to build a new shell.

for what it's worth, I think you should go with a new shell / roller. Even though it might be repairable, it will only remind you of what she's been through and that would probably hurt everytime you drive the car (and like you mentioned, you know deep down she will not be the same)

start again with something fresh, and see it as a new beginning.

yeah she was. I think that after i pull the frame/body and paint, blah blah blah, its going to cost me as much as a shell so atm thats what im going to look for.

that's really too bad dude. your car always had a nice stance and with that 99 spec front end it looked complete. good luck with whatever decision you make.

FWIW, you could toss aorund the idea of a track only car.

Pull that one straight, strip it and track it. Get a new shell for a clean road car.

yes indeed. I will be keeping my aftermarket stuff though for now. But everything else in the car is fair game. Ive slowly started taking the car apart. I will get organized and make and inventory and post up a list with prices.

But if anybody has interest in anything lmk. Paul (3rdgen) has expressed interest in the hood already..jim with the diff and tranny, and possibly my gas tank.

Im busy this week so it probably wont be until next week after the long weekend til i have a list

Hey Joe, I was hoping you would chime in as I was wondering how much it would be to fix the car but im sure its going to be waaay to much and it wont be up to spec.

I crawled under the car and there are cracks under the fender well where the cage was bolted and the rear weld seam in the trunk area and rear sides are all split.

I did toy with the idea of a track car, but i dont have the time/budget to build 2 cars. If you know of anybody that would like the shell for their track car pass this along. Id hate to see it crushed.

Maybe Ian could pass that info on to the guys in Ottawa that race a 3rd Gen. It would make a great starting point for a track car or a great spare shell. Remember, a track car only has to look good from 20 feet away, LOL.

Its funny how sometimes just a quick glance you can pick up your name in a page. lol. I think the ottawa race team already has a spare shell. This shell is messed but still has a few good clips.

So either way I hope to see you into another 3rd gen.... I've always wanted one but have to much into my 2nd gen....
