Hello all...sad day today...need help finding an FD shell..
Hello forum,
Don't what to say but I had an unfortunate day at the track today..there was some fluid on the track that was not cleaned off the racing line and I got on it and slid into the barrier backwards as i tried to save the car and my car is pretty much done for the season.
The rear quarter panel is done, both b-pillars are crumpled and my trunk floor is bent. Good news is that everything on the car is salvageable minus the rear bumper, rear lights, one sideskirt and obviously the shell. Im glad i had the roll bar in the car as it probably saved us from the full brunt of the impact. Walked away with a sore neck, bruised shoulder and clavicle. Glad we had our helmets on
I dont usually vent, but this sucks, I feel like **** and depressed and I just want someone to wake me up...
Thanks to Rich and Dave for the help with getting the car ready for the flat bed...and to the CDN forum, please let me know if you have an FD shell or know where I can get one....LHD or RHD (preferrably).
Thanks again.
Ken

That's horrible. That has to be my biggest fear, taking the car to the track and not being able to take it home. Sorry to hear, hope you feel better! I'll donate some beer as well.
My first FD only lasted 3 weeks, the only cure is to get yourself another one....

thanks for the support guys. No Ian this was TMP, and it wasnt coming out of the right hander before the straight, not the wall. It was just the one single barrier that i guess people stand behind when marshalling. Couple of cars spun out of the same place I did but I got the worst of it.

very sorry to hear about the accident. if you want a good roller and don't mind going to the states, there are a lot of clean oness in the F/S section of rx7 club for very reasonable prices.
good luck!

Man thats a shame and on a pretty slow corner as well, but **** happens.
I am glad that nobody was injured and thats why I kinda get freaked out when I read about guys pulling low 1:30's out of their street cars at Mosport with little to no safety equipment. It just takes a bit of something on the track and ziiinnnggg off you go into the wall. If it can happen to Senna, it could happen to anybody.
Hopefully your loss will make others look at their safety stuff and upgrade to at least a Defnder or Hans device. I would like to see cages and 5 point harnesses (LOL) but you have to be realistic. You can replace a shell, but you can't replace you.
If I can help out in any way, let me know.

Sorry, I should have added this. Have you looked at having the shell pulled out straight? What you describe is a pure racing accident and many guys have their car repaired and have a new rear quarter put on. Wayne Hosacki at Birchmount collision and the guys at 4Way in Brampton have a lot of experience doing this. I don't know if Joe has a chassis plate out at his place, but it is possible and cost effective. My Cougar backed into the Turn 3 wall at Mosport and it was pulled out and other than a few minor floor pan wrinkles, its as good as new.
Granted your beautiful car won't be a virgin anymore, but it will work as good as new and it should be a on cheaper to repair it this way as well.

in all honesty....the rhd drive for sale in TO should be part of your consideration and factor in what parts you could sell separately to help recoup some of the cost. Go and try using your jokoy charm......ahaha

Sorry to hear about the car Ken. When I saw it at the autocross it was looking fantastic. However, the build is one of the best parts of the process right. You will be up and running again soon with an even better car if not the same one. And don't get out of the game. You are one of the ones that convinced me to stay in it. I think we all think about getting out of RX7s or cars altogether sometimes. However, truth be told... it is in our blood. The next shell will be even better.
Keep your head up.
