Headlight wiring problem

Hey guys, i posted this in the 3rd gen section, but i was wondering if there was anyone local who may have a clue as to what the hell is going on. The following is simply cut and pasted from my other post.

Hey knowledgeable folks. I have a bit of an issue that i've been dealing with since i purchased my FD.

A bit of background. The previous owner had a break in and theft attempt. They would be thief did a number on steering column attempting to get the car moving. This resulted in a new combo witch, ignition, and various parts around the steering column.

When i purchased the car 2 summers ago, he mentioned this, and that there was a "problem" with the lights after he got the car back. Please don't ask my why he never took it back to get it rectified. I don't know. I *don't* have a copy of the bill for the work, and it was probably 3 years ago that this happened, so it's not very logical to return to the shop that did the work and expect them to fix it.

First, i'll describe the symptoms and then i'll give you my stab at what i think i need to do to fix this. I'm posting this on here, so that i can possibly avoid me being hopelessly wrong, or if i'm right, some tips on how to do fix this. As i've never played with a cars electrical system beyond adding some stereo components.

Symptons:

When headlights are turned on, the flip ups work properly. However, when the combo switch is set to low beams, the HIGH beams AND low beams come on. When the switch is set to HIGH BEAMS, the highbeams remain on, but the low beams turn off.

What i think the problem is:

For reference, i've attachted a zoomed jpeg of the Z54 wiring diagram page, focused on the combo-switch, X-04 harness, and headlights.

I *think* that somehow, during the repair, that the R/W and R/Y wires that lead from X-04 to the headlamps were switched. From the diagram, it appears that only the R/W wire is the "high beam" wire because it's the only wire that goes to the instrument cluster (High beam indicator, which DOES work properly) and is associated with the flash to pass.

However, here's the thing ... it LOOKS TO ME from the wiring diagram, that even if this was the case -- that the Highbeams AND lowbeams cannot both be on at the same time, even if these wires were simply switched? Am i read i'm this wrong? Since i've never owned an FD with properly working headlights, can someone answer me whether or not, when the Highbeams are on, the lowbeams are also on? If this is the case, than i suspect its a swapped wire location on the F harness side of the X-04 harness.

How would i go about fixing this? do i need to rip apart my dash and possbily blow my head off with the airbag?
