Has anyone ever put a wastegate on a charge pipe?

I know it seems like a weird idea but I was thinking about it today at work and couldn't see down sides to it? In fact I think it would control boost better than a exhaust setup, eliminating boost spikes and the constant bleed off and build up with a exhaust setup. Just a thought, wondering if anyone has done it or even your opinion, even if you say I'm a dumbass..

Thanks

it'll destroy turbos

the point of a wastegate is to control boost yes, but the secondary purpose is to prevent the turbine from overspeeding and destroying the bearings.

By doing that your turbo would be spooling to infinity until it dies which will be very quickly since the turbo will be receiving 100% of the exhaust energy and would be leaking pressure on the compressor side making it even easier for the turbo to spin faster and faster. I'd give it a few seconds at WOT before the turbo dies lol.

Yeah, they don't last long I've seen guys trying to run a stock turbo on a heavily ported engine with upgraded exhaust and fmic. Lasted about 150k even with the stock gate opening. So I could just imagine how long it would last this way.
