has anyone done road construction?

Just curious if anyone has any experience doing road construction and if so if you could share some basic over site. I have been invited for an interview. The position is a supervisor of road construction (municipal) .

When I was in high school I started my own side business spraying driveways and actually paved a couple as well. So while that was a long time ago I think I may have a small understanding but perhaps there is a difference I don't see. Roads certainly are longer and busier plus that was 20 years ago.

Any insight would be appreciated

paving a driveway, and paving a road are two different animals. Most driveways just have some granular, with asphalt on top this days, whereas a road, is granular, concrete, asphalt. It's not overly complicated though. The standards, and pace are different though. I haven't dealt with municipal roads though, just highways.

I work in the concrete industry currently, and am trying to get into similar positions. Good luck with your interview.

If you're not trained and qualified to do a job. You shouldn't do it. Go to civil engineering school or get experience in the trade. Would you ask a mechanic to do a root canal? No. So i wouldn't want to have someone who has no experience in building roads to supervised road building. Can you plan a day of work? Do u know how many men you'll need, equipment,ect.... im an ironworker by trade and i wouldn't take order from a guy who knows nothing about the steel. Leave that interview for someone qualified with experience

I disagree, I'd say take the interview and see what happens. If they see potential in you & hire you, they'll be willing to train you. It's not like they would hire you with no good reason.

Maybe, just went to the dentist to replace an old bridge (three teeth). Quoted me $8000.00 for two implants and to create new bridge between them. The mechanic is looking pretty good to me now!
