harness bar dimension?

ok so im in the market for a harness bar for my fc...its pretty hard to find one...the only one that's common is the nrg one...

anyone have experience with these?

i think there's 3 sizes and they're generic so you gotta measure the distance between the top seatbelt bolts...my cars in storage so i cant do it....anyone know how many inches this is?

any other suggestions on harness bar?

does anyone even have one they wanna sell?

cheers

They're rare because they turn your car in to a death trap.

If you end up on your roof without proper rollover protection the harness attached to your harness bar maintains your vertical posture whether you want it or not and leaves a person open to serious head or spinal injuries.

I work in sales for a laser cutting and manufacturing company. I think I'm just going to take measurements and build my own. I'll get back to you on this.

I don't know how many times I have said this in other forums and it always seems to be ignored.

If you're serious about buying one, you're better off to have a small cage built without door bars, just a main hoop with rear re-inforcements to the shock towers, and put your own bar across the main hoop. It's not that much money, and also adds to your chassis rigidity.

How much are harness bars to buy pre-made? $300, maybe more shipped to the door? Pay a bit extra and get it done right...

Not to mention it still allows you to expand on it in the future if you want for whatever sanctioned racing you do.

And it looks cool

Would that price apply to a convertible too? I'd be looking at something that still allows the top to function without removing the 'targa'/hardtop portion of the roof if you know what I'm talking about. I want to start tracking my car this summer (said that last summer too lol) so some rollover protection/ chassis stiffness would be nice.

Hey Joe, something I should mention to you. I got a cage built up here by a friend who's a fabricator, I'm not sure if you usually order a main hoop pre-bent or do your own up, but if you look up the main hoop from a 1st gen talon, it fits the FC's contour perfectly, and cost something like $75. We got it to within less than 1" to the roof and b-pillars, to the point where I won't be able to use factory seatbelts.

Here's a couple shots of mine:

Or you could drop $2500 for a cage like mine in the Cougar or the RX7. Both are strong enough to stop a Mack Truck and they really stiffened up the cars a ton. Only issue is that it weighs a ton as well. By the way, the RX7 is first, then the Cougar.

Just a side note that if you are ever looking at doing some Regional Racing with your car, make sure Joe knows it so that ha can build the cage to meet the proper rules.

Check out Kirk Racing for cage kits for the DIYer...

Also, for those of you with convertibles looking for a bolt-in roll bar, they offer one. It's not shown on their website, but if you call them up they definitely have it. I know because my dad has one in his '88 S4 vert.

Personally, I will be having a custom 6-point built in my S5, but to each their own...

I would pay to watch Rosie O'Donnell try to get in that cougar.
