Hammond and Frere in the same day!

Damn! Richard Hammond crashed at over 280 mph and lies in critical condition:

And Paul Frere wrecked badly in a civic type R near the nurburgring. Bad if you're 30, REAL BAD if you're 89!

Hopefully they both get it back together and get back on the road soon.

And if they don't:

This is horrible news!!!

Hamster at the wheel of a jet powered car.... damn! I hope he has a speedy recovery! Top Gear and the automotive world wouldn't be the same without him!

To have a Honda Civic Type R take you out of commission is a horrible way to go for someone with a background like Paul Frere!!
Last thing I read from him was the article he did for Road & Track regarding the 787B. The anniversary of Mazda winning at LeMans!

I hope both gentlemen recovery quickly!!

Jeremy Clarkson, one of Mr Hammond's co-presenters on the BBC show, told the Sun newspaper his colleague had got to his feet and walked "shakily" to the toilet during the early hours of Friday.

And fellow Top Gear presenter James May said on Friday he believed the injured presenter was "perfectly intact" after the pair had had a conversation at his hospital bedside.

"I'm not a doctor but I am his mate and I believe that deep inside the Hammond I know is perfectly intact," he said.

Mr Hammond is out of intensive care at Leeds General Infirmary and said to be making "satisfactory progress"

Hammond hasn't crashed very often but the ones he has are quite serious, i can't remember the name of the car but it was italian designed with a 456ci in the back, i think it was called the ittaliana flamethrower, the car was cut in half behind the driver seat. on a european oval track. with smooth walls (ouch)

Nice to see Hammond back to himself. Part 2 of the interview is on youtube as well.

Yes, Hammond seems fine. Hope Frere has recovered similarly well - I've been reading his articles and reviews in Road & Track since I was in Jr. High - about 25 years! An outstanding contributor to the auto enthusiast community.

Yup, Hammond is back on the set and filming Top Gear as if nothing ever happened. Great to see.

Here's a clip of his return to the show and footage of the crash:
