GSL-SE Value

How much would you guys estimate an '84 GSL-SE with 201,000kms on it, newer engine (perfect compression), fresh paint (body wasn't bad before paint, very minor rust), new tires, new brakes and brake lines, new Energy Suspension bushings, and an almost new complete Racing Beat exhaust system is worth around here (Ontario)?

Safetied with proper ownership, $2500 seems like a good starting point.

I'd say solid with fresh paint and good engine would be over the $3000 mark. The one Gary sold was mostly original, with a 50,000kms rebuild and a little rough around the edges, but otherwise solid with immaculate interior.

These cars (and all used cars for that matter) tend to sell for higher prices in western Canada--- especially Alberta--- than they do in Ontario and Quebec. (supply/ demand).

Here in Alberta typical values for an '84 or '85 SE are as follows:

Absolutely mint, bone stock, un-restored, all records, no accident history, original owner: $6000 and up. (I've heard of the odd one selling for over 9K in recent years). BTW, examples like these are now extremely rare. You'd have to search far and wide to find them.

Very nice, restored/ re-painted, stock, no records: up to $4500.

"20-footer" (= looks great from 20 feet away), good engine, no rust, stock, the usual door dings, rock chips, etc: $2000 to $3500.

All the rest (any combination of the usual varying degrees of rust, high-mileage engine, dings, mechanical issues, tired suspension, so-so exhaust, cracked windshield, etc. but still roadworthy: $600 to $1500 depending on condition and seller's greed.

Also, mods will wreck the value of otherwise mint examples if said mods are of the irreversable variety or if the original components don't come with the car. Mods won't necessarily hurt the value of lesser-condition examples, but don't expect to get the cost of doing those mods back at selling time.

For prices in Ontario knock off about 20% of the above price estimates and you'll be in the ballpark.

Red face

If there is no rust in the bins the value is definatly higher. Hard to find in Ontario though.

I paid $6500 for my SE with 64k last year. All original, one owner, service records, no accidents etc, garage kept and no winters or rain.

My car is appriased at $7500.

Mint SE's are getting harder to find, and I think the value is going to rise.

Cheers

You lucky bastard. Yours is a case in point that illustrates the value and rarity of SEs in this shape. I hope to find a similar one at some point.
