Angry Getting Frustrated

I don't know if this is where I am supposed to post this or not but I'll give it a try. About 6 months ago I bought a 1979 RX-7 from a guy tht had it advetised as parts or repair, for $400. The engine was out of the car but all i really wanted was the shell (which in this case was really solid) The problem is that I haven't been able to get a registration in my name. The story of the car is this, There was a drug-bust years ago in which the car was seized. After the car sat in impound for so long with nobody coming to clame it, the car was sent to a local junk yard. The person that owned this junk yard and the guy that I bought it from were friends, so this lead to the guy taking the car home. This is where the car has been scince. The last time the car was registered was 1990. How do I go about getting a registration in my name when I don't know whos name the car is in? Anyone ever have to deal with this before? Sorry this was soo long.

Buy a used vehicle informtion package from the Ministry. It will list the name of the last owner and their general location (not their address). Then set to work using google, Canada411, etc. to track him down. I used this method to locate the owner of an abandoned 7 and gave him a case of beer for the title.

Not sure if it would work in this case, but you can always claim salvage rights to it!!! It works for abandoned boats and stuff!! Why not a car???

Not sure how different there is but in Alberta all you need is a bill of sale. Have a friend "sell" you the car for a dollar and write about a bill of sale.

Why not do this? Im a bit confused, you said he brought the car home :S, so do you have the car in your posession or not? or atleast the vin? thats all you need to get the package.

Yes I have the car in my driveway right now. It has been sitting there waiting scince September. I am going to be going to Montreal to buy a 13BT for it but I don't want to go and spend a bunch of money on the car and then not be able to register it for the road. I have the car and the VIN. The car was last Saftey inspected in Feb/1990, and here in NB that needs to be done every year, so I know the car has been off the road scince at least that time.

Okay good news today guys. I contacted the motor vehicle office for the whole province today and told them my situation. They found the VIN in the system and told me that they know who used to own the car but couldn't tell me the name. They told me I would have to have the car appraised, and take that, the VIN and the bill of sale to my local DMV. I got it appraised and took all the info to motor vehicle today, but the bill of sale says its a 1979, and the car is actually an 80, aslo the bill didn't have my name or the VIN on it. They said if i get this changed I can get it in my name. I'm soo happy.
