ON Garage Heaters

Well I finally did it put a garage furnace in, a new NG Reznor Garage Heater 60,000 BTU large enough for most 2 car garages. If your in the Greater GTA and in the market and the prices are out of reach, I was quoted upwards to $4000. well.....

Now the plug, found this guy on Kijiji a licensed HVAC shop who installed and supplied the unit for $1300 to $1600!

Nice! Tempting if I was staying in the house more than another 3-4 years.

I wish...

My garage is detached and doesn't have electricty I won't be living at my current place long enough to justify running wires to the garage.

I work at TSC (its a hardware store if you don't know what it is) and we sell 80k and 50k BTU propane/natural gas heaters for 5-800 dollars if you are looking to get something lower priced to heat a large area those are good too!

I have one (TCS) here in Orangeville, never heard of them till I moved here. I looked at the Mr. Heater they sell, it's the install thats the killer. This guy will warranty up to 10 years parts & labour if you get his yearly service.

Can someone calculate how much electricity this bad boy will use on average usage? My garage is consistently 7 degrees "warmer" than the outside without a heater already...

no electricity except ignitor spark, natural gas on this unit is 85% efficient. Yesterday was cold (-21 to -28) set it to 60° F turn off/on every half hour for 10 minutes same as the furnace in your home, worked all day in garage nice & toasty. Should have done this in my last house, I used 2 electric heaters and my hydro bill would double if I was out there every other weekend.

When I first read the title, I thought I was going to see a photo of you and your buddies smoking cigarettes.

A 60k btu heater is a bit overkill for a typical 2 car garage. A lower sized unit like 35-45k btu would have probably done the trick and most likely cheaper too. The smaller units run longer to bring the space up to the desired temp, but when they cycle for a longer duration they are more efficient. Your 60k unit will heat up the space fast though.
