Exhaust for 87 T2
Exhaust for 87 T2
Hi guys,
I recently picked up a 1987 Turbo II and need a full exhaust for it. The exhaust is pretty rotted (luckily the only rust on the car) so I wanted to get a full turbo-back setup.
Can anyone suggest a supplier in Canada where I can look? I looked at getting the RB system and putting on a hi-flow cat, but don't know where to look to dodge duty/brokerage/hassles.
Can anyone suggest anything (yes I seached, but had no luck with Canadian suppliers)?
P.S I'm in Ottawa.
Thanks

RX7 specialties, here in calgary is a RB dealer, u'd still pay for shipping but not duty or taxes. their could possible even be a closer RB dealer to ottawa.
BTW, my full RB exhaust is the bost i've ever heard, Good choice.

If you want the RB system - here's what you should do.....
Phone RB and get a quote in USD for a catback system shipped to:
2981 FORD ST EXTENSION
OGDENSBURG, NY 13669-3474 - USA
This is the address of the closest UPS store to Ottawa.
Now, go to a post office and buy a money order in US funds for the amount of money RB quoted you for. Call RB and explain how you are going to send them this money order, and how they will ship you the system to the UPS store care of you - and ask them to include your phone number on the packing slip. Mail this money order to them complete with clear instructions as to what you want and where it is to be sent.
Sit back and wait.
When the box arrives at the UPS store, they will call you to let you know it has arrived. Then, within a week, you drive down to Ogdensburg to pick up your exhaust. At the border going into the states you tell them what you are doing. At the UPS store you will give them $20 ($10 per box per week for the service of receiving and holding your boxes) and load your massive boxes into your car. Keep the receipt handy.
At the Canadian Border you will declare the value of the goods minus the shipping (ie - $576 USD.) You will then have to go inside to pay the taxes - about $80. There is no duty because it's american made. Then be on your merry way and have a nice drive home!
All told, for me it was $576 USD + $20 USD + $83 CAD... plus gas and the cost of sending the money order and it was just over $730. Compare that to the quote from a canadian dealer and you'll be saving $300+. Not too shabby!

After rereading, I forgot to add the shipping cost in my post above!
For me, the shipping was about $75 USD to the UPS store - so once that was added in the total cost was more like $825 CAD. Still better than the $975 - $1000 Plus tax I was quoted from 2 canadian distributors - one of which would still have to ship it to me - so add another $75 CAD to that cost!
If you want a new RB system, it is the cheapest way to get it.

yeah, definitely go with the UPS store.
If you want to do it on the legit, follow Nick's instructions. Otherwise there's a Mr. Muffler right near there that can install it for you and dispose of your old parts. Buy some mountain dew, some oil filters and a pair of pants, and hand them the receipts for $60 when you come back across. They'll smile and let you on your merry way.
You're taking a risk for sure, and since tax isn't THAT much it doesn't hurt to pay it, but that's how my RB exhaust got installed.
The funny thing is that every time I come to the border, they ask me why I'm in the US. I say "Mountain dew and oil filters". They look at me like I've grown a second head and say "You drove all the way from Quebec to get oil filters?" .... they can't understand that yes, I have driven "all the way".. it's 1hr. It's no big deal. (I live in Aylmer).
So I tell them I was on my way to Kingston to see a friend and figured I'd pop across the border since you can't get Purolator PureONE oil filters and caffeinated mountain dew in Canada
