Would you like to learn how to port?
So its 3:30am and I'm just taking a break from porting a few sets of irons and housings that are being built very soon, and I got thinking....
Why not show people how to port?
I've had alot of people over the last few years tell me that porting can't be that hard. Pffffftttttt yeah right. So I hand them my die grinder and say go for it!
Needless to say after about 5 mins of hacking away at a junk iron they quickly change thier mind about the process
. Once you've tried it your self you have a whole new outlook on what is invovled in making a rotary engine breath.
So I'm seeing if there would be any interest in having some porting lessons held here at our shop to give people a chance to try out the art of porting with the proper tools of the trade. It would be a good chance to ask any kind of engine building questions you might have also.
No date is set for this yet, just wondering if there would be any interest.
Heres a couple random pics of some porting I've done in the past
Primary port on Terrh's Half bridged T2

Secondary Bridge port from our race car

Secondary port on a Cosmo RE motor for a drag car in BC

Another shot of the Secondary port from our race car

Secondary port for a Half bridged 12A

Ported exhaust vs stock exhaust ports on new Mazda housings

I would say a Video would be kickass, but the actual in-person experience is better. Ask more you get more of a 'feel' etc. I remember when i did some porting with Joe. OH HOLY MOTHER! LOL i was like "this is easy" then i realised "OH ****! too much too much!" lol... hand and the cutting too would bounce all around LOL fun stuff, loud as *** tho... remember earplugs folks!

Well I dont really want to make a video....take a look at the Motoring Unlimited Video I did LOL. I hate the camera.
Plus its not the same on video, being here in person would be much better.
I'd maybe make this later in the summer....end of August? That gives people some time and gives me time to mentally prepare myself

So how do you propose that people rewind real life? That was the the thing about the Atkins video that was useful when building my engine, sure being there is great, but if you have something to go back to in the future it's a much greater tool

Well for some reason you cant rewind real life.....but if your not gawkin at the ceiling and pay attention, you really shouldn't have to
I've watched the Atkins vid....its OK....they dont show you all the little tricks.
Dead-eye, I wouldn't be charging anyone for this, but if you want to buy me beer and pizza I'd be cool with that LOL.

Alright - for those of us who can't make it to Canada - someone shoot a video and I'll host the 60gig flick
point that i'm making here is - i'd like to see what other guys do, details or not, its worth the effort i believe.

OK...WOW!
There is ALOT of interest in this. I've been getting all kinds of pm's, emails and phone calls from all over the place about this!
But just to make this clear to everyone, by coming to our shop and listening to me ramble about air flow and port shapes isn't going to make you an expert porter.
I dont in any way consider myself an expert. I am only 21 years old.....I have alot to learn yet. I does help that I have been porting and building engines for 7 years now.
I mostly wanted to offer this day for anyone who doesn't have access to a shop or tools who would want to learn a bit more about porting and rotaries in general.
I know several of you out there are ready to come down and try your hand at cutting a bridge port or smoothing out some intake runners
I will be suppling all the junk irons and rotor housings, but if you have a few sets that are being tossed out theres no harm in bringing them along.
As for a video....I may be able to have a film crew on hand for the day......maybe
