Engine smoke

Hey guys! Encountered a problem with my FD today. Started her up and drove to work this morning, I was running a little late so I didn't have much time to let it warm up, but I don't think it should be too much of a problem cuz it's not THAT cold yet.
But when I got to work, I noticed smoke coming out of my engine bay, so I popped the hood and low and behold my engine was smoking. It didn't smoke too much, but enough to see it coming out from under the hood.
I dunno if it's just just excess fuel being burnt out from cold starting the engine, and not letting heat expand it before going, or what? Any other viable explanations? Would be a great help, cuz I'm moving soon and don't have the money to be dicking around with it or paying a mechanic to do the same.
Thanks guys, really appreciated!

If its smoking, something is leaking. Is your emissions system still intact? Do you have an oil catch can? Where exactly was it smoking from?

Most likely oil is leaking from somewhere and burning on the exhaust. Or maybe a little coolant leak dripping on there.

First there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with starting the car and driving immediately. I have never done a "mandatory" warmup with my car, nor with any car. The car warms up faster and carbons up less if you don't let it just sit there and idle (rich at cold starts). The only time I'll give it a short warmup is if it doesn't like to idle cold for whatever reason; usually lack of Idle controls, cold start mechanisms, or premix cars.

Smoke in the engine bay can be a lot of things, you just need to identify it. Considering the season, its entirely possible that your engine got wet from standing water/rain. It could also be a leak from oil/coolant if its on the exhaust side. If your exhaust is smoking at the same time as its happening, then it could be from an exhaust leak.

I wouldn't worry about it too much if it was a one time thing. Like I said could have just been some water sitting somewhere.

Hey thanks for the input guys! It only happened once, took it home at lunch, and took it for a spin after work and no signs of smoke.
I'm living in Lloydminster, and moving to Calgary, so I'll have to leave it here for the winter time, cuz I have nowhere to park it for the winter season down in C-Town. Much cheaper to leave it at my parents' house lol
Thanks again for the input guys!
