DIY: 13BT Rebuild
Hi I was just wonder if anyone give me some clues as how to to rebuild my own 13BT . I've always wanted to try it, but have no idea how to do it. I looked up Atkinsrotary.com to look for the take but after Canadian customs and taxes it comes to around 70.00 to a tape, I will not have a receipt, so they will not be liable after the payment. I don't think that is a safe way... another option is, someone told me in Vancouver, B.C. there is a shop that dabble a lot in rotary engines, Tekum. Does anyone have any feedback on them ? or any other methods on how to start the rebuild by myself?
Thanks
Thanks

Pick up a junk block and tear it down. Then re-evaulate once you've done that since you'll have a better idea of what is involved.
Some members do the remove and re-install of the engine themselves and then leave the tear down and rebuild of the keg to a pro. This method will save a lot of cash.

Thanks for you're feed back, I'll go find a ruined engine and take a look at it, because i'd hate to mess up the one that I am using right now, and I don't know how much torque is needed to apply to the nuts and bolts. I don't want to strip the threads nor do I want them too loose. Anyways Thanks again

Check out my engine build thread in the 2nd Gen Archives. It's not a 13BT, but the process is almost exactly the same (the only area of difference is the oil pump chain shield in the turbo). The thread will give you an idea of what's involved.
Also, the Bruce T video is of great help.

I simply refused to buy either rebuild video because I couldn't find anybody who'd ship to Canada via post. They both insisted on using couriers, which is going to add customs and other charges that will end up costing as much as the tape! I tried to reason with them, but it fell on deaf ears. The Bruce T video on DVD would cost maybe $1 to send by post!
I tore my engine down and inspected all the parts, but a good block came my way and was much cheaper than rebuilding, so I went that route instead. There are a lot of details to attend to but overall, the process is not really all that difficult. There are just a lot of places where you can make mistakes and end up with a bad motor.

I have a copy of the Atkins vid, just borrow it or make a copy from mine. You're right about the shipping problems with these vids, when I purchased mine from Atkins I told them to send it USPS. It showed up at my door via UPS and a stupid brokerage bill. That was the first and last thing I order from Atkins.

I tried to reason with Atkins, but they wouldn't listen. Kept telling me that they couldn't get insurance or proof of delivery through USPS, which is an absolute crock. Besides, why would you need insurance on a product that cost them maybe $2 to duplicate?

My bruce T video came the same as Aarons...it was cheap and well worth the savings if you consider paying someone else to do your teardown correctly, not to mention many that have not gone well.
My 2 cents
