London, really? The only reason I ask is because tuning shops don't seem to last very long here. We have really two demographics: the hard core racer that already deals with some of the very good engine builders in the area (most of this is V8 stuff) and then the person who hangs out in the Blockbuster parking lot on Wednesday nights. The others who have a legitimate interest in modified vehicles generally do the work themselves.

You're also competing against many of the talented body shops in the city that have a long standing reputation of quality work, at reasonable prices for enthusiasts.

London isn't a "middle city" like Kitchener/Waterloo, so the through traffic is less.

These, among several other reasons, are why I have never bothered to open a shop (even a weekend one).

 

No offence intended,but opening a tuning shop in London would be like Having a Disco in the Sahara!..
too far for me anyways.I am 75 km outside Ottawa and I feel stranded for any help!

 

1. If I needed a shop to do the job, then based on your description, yes I would use yours.

3. Not really. I'm kind of shitty at it.
4. No. I do things in stages. They may seem haphazard and poorly thought out, but **** gets done.
6. Boy I hope so, otherwise I'm not sure why I've spent so much.
7. No. I prefer to do things my own way with a fresh canvas.
8. RX-7 and budget do not go hand in hand.

10. In all honesty, good luck. My answers were not meant to be sarcastic. These are my true feelings in regard to your questions. Also sorry about the whole not emailing it to you. That's asking a lot from lazy forum dwellers such as us. I personally do not see the appeal of a shop in London, since when I needed a shop I did not have the money to use their services, which forced me to do the work myself. Now that I have the money I also like to pretend I have the ability, so I no longer have much use for shops aside from doing work I simply do not have the tools or equipment to do myself. That aspect is slowly dwindling as well since as I go I am acquiring more tools. One day I'll have garage to put them in.

Nope, not me. There is a grey/silver FC in town with a V8 and slushbox from sold old van driving around, and I think the guy has long hair.

4. Yes and No. In the rare occasion when I use a mechanic (because, for example, the car needs an alignment and I don't have the equipment) I have been both satisfied and unsatisfied.

5. No. The example given of bundling mechanical and body work depends on two entirely different skill sets and I'd be highly suspicious of a mechanical tech who is also an expert at body work. It also depends on the type of body work. Anyone can pull a dent or spot repair a panel (well, non metallic colours anyway), but can they fix a rusted wheel well using a repair that will last?

6. Yes!

7. No. Because I am very particular about how I want things done, and buying modified "off the shelf" means that, just like a vehicle from the dealer, I'd have to make decisions and compromises in one area or another. Plus, there are obvious issues with this. Liability? Warranty? Emissions? Safety? It's a HUGE can of worms. As a customer I'd be very leery about the whole thing.

8. Yes, of course. This is a basic requirement of any business providing a service. It's kind of concerning that it's on the survey, actually.

9. 0. What a company does with their profits is their own business and in no way would influence decisions. In fact I may be a bit less likely to patronize such a company because it may be a charity that I don't support. Which includes most charities, because in most cases such little money donated actually goes to the cause it is basically criminal.

10. My first post in the thread covered it but when looking just at the survey, I have one more comment. The business description is fairly generic and if that is what we are basing our survey answers on, it's not idea. There isn't any indication of experience, prior jobs completed, qualifications, etc. How much tuning experience is there, since the name is "tuning"? For example, ECUs the employees are experienced with?
