De Lorean dash mod

(hopefully this'll stay in the Canadian section, since there seems to be a lot of us D fans here...)

I've been thinking about modifying a De Lorean to an upgraded interior - the original was a sort of knock-off of the older lotus Esprit interior, and has 'cheap' features such as font-illiminated gauges (as opposed to backlit) and looks a bit unfinished.

I think a binnacle/console/centre HVAC vents more like the BMW 850i would actually look at home in the car:

How'd I do what? one is a pic of the D interior, the other is the BMW... it's a happy coincidence they have similar dash slop and shifter & glovebox location

edit: If I ever did such a mod, I'd add an RX-8ish backwards-sliding centre bin cover and cut a hole into the backbone to recess a bin with integrated cupholders. I'd have to reroute the shifter cable a bit, though...

OK. Have fun. While you're at it, Dakota makes some very nice digital dashes.

They do have some neat stuff - but IMHO people (okay, me) can process tach and speedo information faster with a conventional sweeping-needle type gauge. I even prefer needle gaugegs for oil temp and level, battery charge, etc.
