Chumpcar
Is there anybody with any Chumpcar experience out there? I'm thinking about running the series, but will an FC be valued over $500 by their regulations?

didn't realize how much the chumpcar rules have changed in the last 12 months. They used to be just like lemons. it's very different now.
I'd say a beater FC will be no problem. If you want to know for sure send chumpcar an email and I'm sure they'll be happy to let you know.

Hello! Yes, bring your RX7! I'm one of the west coast staff and my team has an S4. There are a decent number of FCs being built right now and a number that have already run with us. Plus a slew of first gens. It's certainly on the line for value, but I don't think you will have an issue. Keep it as stock as you can for the best shot of making it through without penalties.
We even allow cracking the motor open and replacing worn seals. As long as its oem parts on a factory motor and you aren't doing any fancy porting or machine work, you are good to go.
There are a number of ways the chumpcar rules have diverged from the lemons rules. The core of the differences is that lemons uses receipts and actual money spent (and bribes) to determine a car's $500ness. ChumpCar uses a process called AIV. You prove your car can be had for $500 (by showing ads on craigslist, or ebay, ect) running for $500 and you are good to go. Generally speaking a vast majority of cars that fit into the rules for one, also fit into the rules of the other. If you get it wrong your first time out, you will get some penalty laps. That's not a big deal to most new teams as they are just trying to finish the race.
You are free to use depressed US markets to get your AIV ads too. I have heard from a couple Canadian teams that rx7s are rare up there and thus demand higher pricing. You aren't restricted to the region you will be racing in.
Feel free to hit me up on PM if you have any questions.

I think my friends and I would love to run our lemons stratus in chumpcar this year. Lemons has been significantly less fun recently than it used to be... never had a problem in the valuation end, just didn't have much fun because we weren't on track for most of the race due to ridiculous penalties, our car failing tech after passing tech, rules being made up on the spot, etc.
