Angry Car + Deer = Bad news for both

Hey All,

Well.... It's time for another segment of "what went wrong in Jon's life this time?".

Three weeks ago my g/f of 4 years left me. As I'm sure many of you saw by my random acts of moderating and blurting out things in threads. This sucked.

And of course, mortgage in her name, so I had to move out of my home and back in with my parents, more suck.

And the parents wanted as much for "room and board" as I was paying for mortgage + food + heat/elect etc... at the other place. Suckalicious

Moving the stuff back from my ex-g/f's place, I was driving my mum's crappy old sunfire whose tires are to the belts, hit a patch of ice coming into the driveway and careened sideways (very very slowly) into a wood retaining wall, royally screwing up her fender. They want me to pay 1g to fix her POS '97 Sunfire. It's barely worth that, but they found a place that quoted that much on fixing it, and are footing me with the bill. Yet more sucking.

And now, on the way home from dropping off a friend last night a Deer jumped in front of the car I was driving, my *dad's* car this time, and the front end is totalled. Hood, bumper, fender, light assembly, radiator and mounts (dumped all the prestone right where I hit the deer), and god knows what else.

So I'm stuck paying the $500 deductible on his insurance for that, on top of the 1G for mum's car repairs on top of the $350 for rent (they wanted $500 but I worked them down) and I've still got 6g worth of student loans and no money!

And as if that isn't bad enough.... Assuming I survive this BS, I still have to pay Carl for my carburetor, Scott for the shipping on my powdercoated panels, and I have a $300 order that needs to go into Mazdatrix for various things!

Gah....

*takes a deep breath*

And I almost lost my job, but that's an entire story onto itself.

Hopefully maybe, just maybe things will start to go better from here. Pictures to come early next week.

Jon

On the upside, my FB survived... still in a giant white dome in Merrickville.

I'm just waiting until we go to pick it up. I can see it now.

"We ain't sure how, but that meteor only hit one thing in the whole dome... now who had the silver car?"

my dad had to put his cat down two weeks ago. life is hard.

at least "the 7 can't lose"

sometimes we have to take 2 steps back and 1 to the left.
take something away from these terrible circumstances and move on.

hope it gets better soon

Yup, life's hard. But one thing I have always noticed: It all seems to work out in the end.

And I know that this is going to sound kind of stupid, but don't worry about the money. I was in WAY WAY deeper than you are with student loans and misc bullshit, but you work hard and eventually it gets paid off. Trust me, in a few years you'll look back and laugh about how "trivial" those sums were.

As for the cars, do some shopping around for fixing the sunfire - you'll find cheaper.

Keep your head up.

That's a good (bad?) amount of suckage...I've heard that bad things always come in threes, so on the plus side you've blown that rule away so you should be good for a few years after this mess clears up.

Regarding the Sunfire, just buy another. I'm sure you can find one for a few hundred dollars, so just switch them in the middle of the night and no one will be the wiser.

Jon, as I have said to you before their will be better days to come. Everybody goes through the ringer more at times than others, but you have certainly reached a peak that will have you good for a few more years to come, as Mr. Cake has already said.

I really think that with you sharing your misfortunes we can actually reflect this upon ourselves and see how fortunate one can be (or alternatively, share the same pain that one Is used to). Thanks Jon.

Thanks for all the support guys,

you all kick ***

On the bright side, mum has (in an amazing feat of non-mom-likeness) offered to pay the deductible on the damage for Dad's car.

I got a fender for mum's sunfire at Dave's Partmart. It's silver, but paint is cheap. Hopefully within the week, I'll be able to get both cars back to operating condition (whatever that means for a pontiac product... *shudder*).

And forward we go.

God I hope this ends soon. My friend Jake surmised that instead of "bad things come in threes" it should be"bad things come in multiples of 3"

I think I've hit 6 or 9, so I should be alright

what the...?

I didn't know you were a prayin' man John. That's nice to know.

I do a little private prayer of my own, but with my mum always having tried to push her religion on others, I tend to keep to myself about religious stuff (Catholic, for those who are curious).

Thanks though.

About 3 years ago I had about that many bad things (some worse) happen to me. Its not so bad when its other peoples things. But when its yours and you were barely hanging on to begin with, its harder to deal with.

I basically lost everything in one large swoop. In the end, I was left with only what remained of my Rx-7. Almost homeless and barely clinging to my job. All this happend in 7 days.

3 years later:

I live happily with my brother. My brother owns the house. I cleared $45,000 last year. I drive a 2005 Mazda Miata. Own a perfectly good FC and I have a Turbo II on the way. My girlfriend is beautiful and I couldn't be happier.

3 Years Ago I wasnt sure I'd make it to next week. Now Im planning for years from now.

As I always say, hang in there.

if you would have seen me a year ago You would have Shot me..to put me out of my misery..But I held on..and now from the edge of the grave I crawled back..I'm not at the top of my game but at least I'm "still playing"..I had Nothing..I mean not even 50 cents..and now I have a car ( had 3..driving one ..sold one, parting one)..and I wake up and go to bed with pain..But I was so SO close to Not being here ,that every day is Good to me..So Jon,sorry to hear about your run of luck.it will pass..stick with it, and you will be laughing at this in a year or so..and see it as another "lesson" that life deals you.. Trust me ..I've been there..

+1 to that.

Just about a year ago I went though just about the same as you, vipernicus42.
Even moving back to the parents house after having my own.
Luckily no crashes though!

At least you still have the car, You'll see that really, in the long run, that's all that's important.

Jon, sorry to hear about your run of bad luck. Somehow it seems life works in cycles of up and down. The crappy part is we don't recognize the "up" parts when were living them, but we sure recognize the "down" parts!

I'm known for being somewhat negative in nature, so let's see what we can do here. If sombody like me can improve upon your situation, imagine what a "positive" type of person can do!

1. girlfriend - better after a few years than being married for many, then getting hurt, plus losing 1/2 of everything you've earned

2. mom's car - at least you were going really slow, and its a cheap car to repair

3. dad's car - at least the deer didn't come in the window and kill you. I've hit 2 of them, and its a VERY real possibility. Also, a deer goes under comprehensive, so doesn't count against your driving record like an accident does. For younger people such as yourself, that can be a killer that you pay for for years. (also, normal deductible under comprehensive is $300, $500 is usually chosen only if you're looking to save a VERY few dollars)

Keep your chin up, all this passes with time.

Rob

Hey Jon take it easy times get rough just wade through em, with your chin up then come out on top. and crap will hit again but keep your chin up.......

one of my biggest crapiest things i ever did was open my mouth way to loud at school (and have part of a book to back it) and ended up in jail for 5 weeks cause they thought i was trying to blow my school, up i'm still paying my dad back for the layer fees on that and it was over a 1 year ago...........

i also have hit a deer with my vehicle. not fun. but dont worry life goes on. just try to keep your family in teh green cause they can help out alot if ya in bad times, thats what i've learned. and hell i'm only 18 turning 19 on April 30th...... got alot to learn and more to expericance, but al in good time

Keep yourt Chin up, keep moving foreward, and only dwell past long enough to learn from it, then move on. anything else is a waste of time....

*edit* Post 299

My hopes for ya

hey, as far as the deers go:

Its been that way across the board

I think it might be attributed to the rather un-winter-like weather, but I have had a constant string of deer damaged cars at the shop all winter...but its cool, it makes up for the lack of icy slip-n-slides

Figure it this way, the deers are confused from the lack of cold and they're out in force making people's insurance worth paying......its not bad luck, just the deer trying to take a bite out of Aviva's pocket! j/k

That too bad, hope it gets better for ya soon........life has a way of balancing out.........
