Broke 3rd Gear Again!

Well yesterday at Shannonville at around 4:10 PM my 3rd gear decided to completely strip every single tooth. It wasn't even a shift of any sort. I had been in 3rd for a few corners as shown in the image below and then coming out of corner 5 I gave it gas, turbo kicked in, and snap snap snap, redline with no power. Every other gear works but shifting into 3rd with the clutch out makes absolutely no sound, there is nothing left of that gear lol. Also, the tranny rattles a lot more then it did when I broke the other one.

Looks like I need a new jdm tranny but Tiger increased their price by $100... Was running almost 20 PSi the whole day with a very laggy turbo (full boost ~5k) since the turbine housing is completely owned internally. Maybe I should just fork up and get a Supra tranny conversion done boo.

On another note, since my Hoosier R6's were done, I didn't bother switching tires because I was lazy and just drove with the slicks on home . I still have them on the car lol.

thats pretty crappy, but still somehow awesome at the same time. the thought of having that kind of power, to tear up a gear in that way, just makes me giddy. sorry for your loss...but i think you secretly like it. haha. maybe not having to swap the tranny all the time. maybe not having to buy used trannies all the time. but the shear destruction.

btw, full track looks pretty cool. I'd like to try it some day. ive done pro and nelson.

We can break a n/a transmissions in 35 minutes. Usually the input shaft or 3rd gear. Import gear boxes cannot dont seem to be designed for big torque numbers, I agree with 20B either a Jerico or GForce will take up to 800ft lbs of torque.

Do those bolt right up? And by that I mean leaving the existing flywheel/clutch and driveshaft or is modification required? How long would it take to get one of those anyway? Also are those dog gears or syncro'd? I kindof need the car to be ready in 2 weeks again or Mosport lol.

I have seen posts where people use t56 in ls conversions. I didn't know they bolt up to rotarys though. As for the T5 do you mean from a mustang? I have had three mustangs and they are not the most reliable trannys.

Sorry to hear bout your loss marco

I'm not too worried about the fact that it broke. It's more of a pain in the *** that it did since I don't like downtime. Too bad it didn't wait until 4 PM at Mosport so then I'd have all winter to come up with a tranny solution.

Any reason not to get the 6 speed? Would be nice for closer gears while still having a high 6th gear for the highway

If you have extra money go for the t56.. There just not as cheap to find used for a good core.

Hmmm, lots of gearing choices . Would like to have a 5th gear that is shorter then my existing JDM 5th gear while squeezing 1-4th so I have to change my rear end 4.3 . Need to figure out how to calculate gear ratios so I can figure out which gearset I would want with the 4.3 though. 6th gear won't matter too much since its just a highway gear but it needs to be taller then my existing 5th.

That is a neat video, and the gears look very close together. that would be a great mod if you didn'( have to kill the interior

driven gear divided by drive gear=gear ratio. Multiply the ratios through the whole driveline to get overall driveline ratio. Torque is multiplied, and rpm is divided by the ratio. Quick do the math

All this talk of tracking makes me sad...lol. I went to shannonville once with my previous car (1990 honda accord coupe with an H22 swap)...but the idiot who sold me my track rims told me they were 114.3x4 (which they did also say on the rims), but he had them on his integra apparently...so it was sorta gay that he didn't know his own bolt pattern...I guess I should have test fitted...oh well...will go on our integra track star...lol. But yea...smoking all seasons isn't all that fun when you gotta take turns at half the speed...and only time before was at cayuga with an all stock 2000 acura TL...hopefully I'll make it out next year with my FC!! But I won't be able to keep up with you turbo guys .

Go with the t56, anything less would be a waste of time. These guys are known to be really good in the LSX world. http://www.tick-performance.com/tick...ackages/fbody/
You want a tranny from an Fbody, or GTO.

After going through the gear ratios, I'd definetely want to change my rear end to 4.3 and use these ratios for the trans... Wonder what it feels like to have the gears that close.

2.98
1.99
1.35
1.00
.79

I'm doing a beefed up MC R154 Supra trans in mine as the gear ratio will work out fine with the 4.3's.

Well, I've been pounding 749whp through a stock one in my MKIII Supra for a couple of years. I'm positive it'll be fine in my FD with my current power (645whp)and even with my future power goals as the car weighs 650lbs less. Less weight we all know= less stress. The MC bits will fortify it quite well I'm sure. hth.
