Question Brakes - Help

I have been having a problem with my 88 10AE's braking system ever since taking the car out of storage this spring.

The pedal travel is much greater than I remember it last year. Under hard braking the rear wheels will lock up, and it feels as though there is not enough braking power going to the front wheels.

I have inspected the rotors and pads - everything is fine - plenty of life left in the brakes.

I bled the brake system this weekend - including the ABS bleeder valve. This did not seem to help.

PLEASE ADVISE IF POSSIBLE

What type of brake lines do you have on the car? Your proportioning valve maybe stuck as well. Could be the front calipers arent sliding properly.

Brake Lines are original.

Proportioning valve - I have considered this - rebuild or replace ???????? - it doesn't look like a big job

Renegade_07 and I helped Starscream with a similar problem on the weekend in his 10th anni. We found a leak at the the ABS sending unit. We yanked the system and are putting in a non-abs system. If you need an ABS equipped Master Cylinder let us know since we have a brand new one that you can buy at a discount. We may have a proportioning valve as well if you think that is the problem.

seized front caliper w/ a leaking abs was my problem. similar symptoms minus the locking of rear wheels

make sure your brake fluid level isnt going down, if it is, and the abs pump is the culprit, be very careful, as it will give suddenly at the worst possible time

however, you may have a damaged seal in your master somewhere, that would account for your long pedal, and the sudden (guessing?) lockup, which is good in one point because it shows that the master is doing exactly what it was designed to do in the event of a failure

sweet, my 10ae has a similar prob, but i really notice it when the abs kicks on under light breaking out of no where.. i also check the pads and bled the system.. still have the prob. is it hard to put in a non- abs box? i mean do i have to bend lines other than the master cylinder to the new non abs box? it is kinda scary when im doin 20kph and the abs kicks on.. i hate brake probs!
