Boycott!!

I've just had the "pleasure" of dealing with the fine people at C.H & R Towing and Storage in Oakville.

They are a bunch of crooked chumps.

A customer's theft recovery came to them yesterday, he was present in the tow truck when they dropped it off and he signed a release form then and there with my shop as the release.

They told me yesterday he didn't fill out the paper work correctly and they wouldn't release the car until that happened, so I told them I would fax a copy of the release form the customer gave me to them, so they could release it to the tow truck (who was waiting at the desk).

Well after faxing it back to them and trying to call them on the same line I did before...they pick up - then hang up.

So I try my other phone line, they pick up this time. Now I get "the payout on the vehicle must be paid before we release it".....well the lady I spoke to before was left with insurance info and billing address for his company and was to recieve payment directly, so the tow truck driver wouldn't have to bring a cheque.

But now thats no good....so no biggie - I'll give them my CC info and pay for it.

Well thats no good either because *apparently* I would have to go down and personally sign the bill of sale.

I talk it over with my dad and phone back on my same phone line (the 2nd one I used) and same ****, pick up - hang up.

Now today - I call on my cell, get the owner on the phone and rip a strip the size of a texas sirloin off of him and he takes my credit card number and releases the vehicle..............after an extra TWO DAYS of storage and downtime because they jerked me around!!!!

BOYCOTT!!!!!

edit: OH, they also kicked the first tow truck off their property because he apparently isn't allowed in their office without a prior appointment??? Never heard of that before. This place is a crooked as a dog's hindleg.

Mmm crooked companies...

CAA or nothing baby!

Shal we discuss the comapny that tried to fail a safety for an engine miss, or the one that tried to fail a car for "misaligned wheel bearing." He relented when I asked him what procedure is used to align the wheelbearing.

When do you leave for vegas?

Sounds like the problem was with the tow truck driver. Maybe there's a little history there...

Yeah, I dunno about this place - they were just totally ignorant with me. I mean hanging up the phone??!?? what the hell is that?

But either way, I got the customer's car out and all total paid them ($120 was the first tow. It was 3kms.) $489 - storage per day was 40bucks (actually very reasonable) 3 days storage - 120 - plus nearly 200 for "administration charges".....like tagging the keys I guess? Beats me.

I'm considering signing up with CAA.

If I signup will they tow my car from my house to a safty inspection station to get a S.S.C.?

I know that with a basic membership they tow your car 20km to the nearest garage but that's in an emergency.

There was history with the first towing company I wanted to use to bring the vehicle out of there....because they wouldn't do it - Aaron (one of the dispatcher's) told me - "CH &R?? ummm, yeah, good luck with that. Were pretty busy anyways and they've never made it easy to tow out of their compound."

Do it, but not just for the towing. As far as I am concerned, the towing is just an added bonus - it's the deals you get as a member that make it worthwhile. CAA is ALWAYS the cheapest rate for hotels and rental cars - even less than the Government of Canada Corporate Rate. It's good in the states and in Canada too. You also get stupid things like 30% off at Lenscrafters etc. Bell Mobility has an awesome rate plan for CAA members too. Seriously, it is so worth it even if you never get towed or get a boost.

I wonder if the CAA membership deals would stack with my Government deals

Just be careful, they don't always tow the vehicle if the plates are expired and even less likely to tow if there are no plates. remember, it's supposed to be for EMERGENCY ROAD SERVICE not a "tow your unregistered hunk to the paint shop and back cause it has no engine yet' service.

They will make exceptions but usually not twice...

Nope, one or the other. Whenever I travel and need a hotel or rental car, I ask for them to quote me on the CAA rate and Government Employee rate. VERY rarely the government rate is better, and when it is better they want you to prove you are on business.

CAA towed my *** home from the dragstrip when i broke my diff, right from inside at the pits

no questions asked... the drag radials were still on the car when they arrived, same with the numbers on the window, and I had packed it so full of **** that you couldn't even sit inside.

didn't say they wouldn't tow you, just that it's possible they won't. Depends on what the driver checks, if he is in the mood to enforce the rules...if you are a good member or if you abuse it.

Hehehehhehe That was my driver that was kicked off the site... CH&R are crooks. I was suppose to go there to get your customers vehicle but I was tied up at a wreck on the Q.
All I can say is ya HE was very pissed off about being kicked out of there.

And ya for CAA it is for legally platted vehicles... You are not suppose to get towed if it is not plated.

Oh yea! Don't forget the trucks. lol At my work we are up front with everything.. And cheaper than them to.
Now it does get pricey depending on the wreck, If I have to pull your car off the pole you wraped it around and clean everything up yea the cost goes up.. (Like a certain RX7) around here... but thats what insurance is for.
