Being hassled ?

Hello to all...
One question....how many of you's get hassled when driving your Rx's. I don't know if it's my imagination...but it gets anoying. Either you get tail
gated ..or they'll see , then all of a sudden...speed up ...pass you
(beating the living **** out of their cars..lol..).
Trying to impress me I guess...and yes I'm following the speed
limit plus some. Believe me, even older men with their new Mustangs.lol..
I don't know...I feel like I'm **** disturbing or something..lol..and
all along I'm want to ride and enjoy my RX.

What the hell is it...maybe the city I live in..I don't know...

Regards

I can't say Ive ever had that happen before! The only recognition I really get is from other RX drivers (be they 7 or 8), but THAT happens all the time. Doesnt matter the age of the person, there is always a wave, and a smile from RX drivers.

Could just be where you live, I live in Winnipeg.

That is the standard occurance ever since I have owned my FD. Most kids and almost everyone who thinks their car is hot sh*t (even if it is a POS) will do this.

I guess some people can't understand that even though I have a nice/fast car, it doesn't mean I want to race them.

One good thing I have found is that even though a neighbor (who is a cop) warned me that I would be pulled over everyday and hassled by cops, it has not happened. Cops leave me alone.

BLK..your right about that...
My son has a 1982 with a body (it's a nice looking car)..last year a cop followed
him for a while...probably checking his plates outs.
After a while my pulled over feeling uncomfortable...the cop just passed and gave him a thumbs ups.
Like ..nice car buddy.
Another funny incident..two summers ago my son
got rear ended in Orleans by a lady. Anyway no one got seriously hurt
expcept the lady..she said she had a sore neck,so anyway..the ambulance
come...one attendant his checking the lady..and lol...the other attendant
his checking the car out.. under hood etc...and asking about rotary stuff.
lol...and here's the lady waiting on the strecher to be transported to the hospital..lol

Yeah I guess Rx's do draw attention...

Hehe, a nice big backfire or two usually persuades tailgaters to back away!

I had a bad experiance with some ******** one time when I was in Washington state. Long story short they went really slow over a mountain pass and I couldn't get by, and when it was over and I passed them, they didn't like it and tried to run me off the road when I was passing, then when they were re-passing me moments later. But I saw them acting like idiots with others, so they were just being ********, it had nothing to do with the car.

Any RX-7 will tend to get a lot of attention, especially if it has any kind of aftermarket or custom exhaust on it, or a body kit. Its just the way things are. They are hot looking cars, and they have such a unique sound that people just can't help but look and stare it seems.

People just act like asses around sports cars...
I'm pretty sure its the "show off" factor, they are jealous of the sports car, or think they are faster than it...
In one night of driving my 2nd gen, I got cut off more times than all of the times I got cut off driving a corolla...

...the trick is to ignore them, stay out of their way, and when you get in the corners - FLOOR IT!

...they stop trying to show off after that...

Most of them have no interest in racing you, they know they can't beat you. They just want to see you hit the gas for a few seconds.

exactly. Thats what ive found. Like when i got passed by a metro the other day when i was doing 120km. I kind got mad so i passed him doing 180 and the guy gave me a big thumbs up and wave. But yes ive been hasseled alot. Actually to tell you the truth ive had 5 ppl over 50 pull me over and talk to me about my car because they used to have one or they wanted to talk about the wankel. I got offered 6 grand the other day for it and im like...wow..thanks buddy. Obvioiusly i said no, but i should have said yes and baught another one and had a couple grand to spare.

Honestly, it's just Gatineau.

When I stick around Hull, Aylmer, Ottawa (and surrounding area) I don't get bugged.

But when I go to Gatineau, no matter what car I drive, somebody tries to drive me off the road. On Maloney with my Rx7 I had a guy in a truck pass me, and cut my front end so close that I had to slam the brakes and deke towards the sidewalk. He almost took my front fender off. And people always speed up, get in front of me on the hwy50 and slam on their brakes.

I don't know why, it's just some stupid Gatineau mentality. I hate driving there because the drivers there are forkin' crazy.

ONE exception to that rule of mine...

Ottawa cops love me. They tail me for 15-20 mins. Probably because I'm a 20-something driving a sports car with Quebec plates.

Once I tried to lose the cop by pulling into a neighborhood. When I turned around and came back out, she pulled me over, called for backup, and asked me to get out of the car. When I asked why, she ignored me and started asking me who I knew in that neighborhood, and why I had turned away. When I responded that I turned in there because you were following me, she said she was following me because I was "driving suspiciously".

Stupid cops.

I've had a couple incidents myself.

When I had my first FC N/A, I had a beat up old Supra turbo try to pull me on the highway. We got up to about 180 and he was only ahead by about a half car. Needless to say he felt pretty dry and just pulled back in behind after. Another time I had this *** right on my tail while I was getting onto the highway. So I take the turn nice and slow in 2nd and as soon as I hit the straight away I pinned it and the headlights disappeared. I was waiting at the light at my off ramp about 5 min later and....are those the same headlights comming up fast behind me??? The car pulled beside and it was a cop!!!!! Gave a thumbs up, turned the cherries on and u-turned back onto the highway.

More recently (tonight) I was bringing the car home and some dumb *** in a neon with exhaust and a neon light around his license plate blew past me, and then not 5 min later an integra comes flying up beside me, takes a look and then guns it and takes off. I've done enough stupid things to know when to sit back but its still tempting. No challenge though, I'm driving a FC TII with a TD07 25G Turbo and all the goodies.

Bottom line, any ricer or even guys in domestics (mustang, camero) will try to show off for u, but for the most part I havn't had any troulbe with the cops here (knock on wood).

Agreed - especially the bit about being a-holes around sports cars - I used to get that even before I got the RX-7, when I drove an 80's vintage 200sx (the older RWD version). I'd get guys in Chevettes trying blow by - lol. In the FC, I find a lot of sport ute drivers (who tend to either be ******** or nervous nellys), in addition to Mustangs (often as not 4 cyl or V6 Stangs - puh-lease!), and a good number of ricer Civics want to to pull in beside on the freeway and make like they want to race - I ignore them. Calgary seems to have a pretty high ******* driver population generally tho'- I get some of the same sorts of behaviors while in my daily driver VW Passat - and its a wagon. That's always guys in sport utes tho.
Haven't ever gotten any police attention in the 7 - surprising, because I got more than my share in my old 200sx, which was blue rather than sunset red.
