Autotrader Scam :(
This is regarding the A4 up for $5,500
This is regarding the $5,500 A4 for sale on autotrader ontario right now

Hello,
Thank you for your interest regarding my car. First of all i wanna tell you some details about the car. The pick up is not available as for the moment I'm not in Canada. Right now I am in London, U.K. I am trying to make a new life in here cause my wife wants to be closer to her family. So only the
shipping option can be used. The car is presenting in a very good condition, no damage or defects, it looks just the way showed in my pics, it is stored in a shipping garage. NON SMOKER!. I realise that is a cheap price for such a product but my special situation makes me do things that i would't do in
normal circumstances and belive me it is not easy at all for me to sell a thing which was one of my dreams during last years. The price I hope to obtain is $5500, the shipping is free.
I overlooked the website to see how it can be done securely and I noticed
that most sellers to close the deal with a third part.I have to decide to use for third party Safepay Solutions. The down payment will be done via secure pay which means that the third party will keep the money until you receive and inspect the car. You have 10 days to inspect the car.

Does seem a litle fishy but, safepay is a legtiment business. Ask him if you could pick the third party, if he will give you a vin number. Why he can't sell it locally to him. Where is the car, Canada, or UK.

Situations like this make me nervous personally. Too many unknowns to deal with...especially since he wants to ship the car. I agree with g prime...try and get a VIN and find out what you can about the car.

Scams like these have been going on forever... if you've shopped on ebay for cars, you've seen it often. It's all about frauding you out of your down payment but they'll hook you into paying the whole thing if you're gulible enough. There was an FD on there a couple months ago, exact same situation (even the London part). The auction got pulled because the pics were of a member's car which had actually been sold a few months back... exact same pics as the original sale lol. The car was supposed to be in London but there were American flags in the background. Clever.

yes these are SCAMS
never use a 3rd party unless YOU picked it!
he'll give you a fake website for safepay or whatever, and if you go to the legit one he'll just drop off the face of the earth, you'll never hear from him again. And you'll still be put the $75 or whatever it cost.

Caveat Emptor!
Friend of mine bid on an 1995 Acura NSX located in the USA via EBAY. He won the auction at $15,000; sent in the downpayment to an EBAY "look alike" web address. Third party took his money, then wanted additional funds to cover off other expenses. This set off warning bells for my friend who then decided to opt out of the deal.
Needless to say he did not receive his downpayment. When he tracked down the advertised owner, she was an apparent victim of identity theft and never had an NSX in her life.
Buyer Beware !!

Sounds too good to be true, so it must be a scam.
I wish I had a nickel for every one of these that I have seen.
With the annonimity of the internet everyone has a deal of the century for you.
The better the deal, the more you want it to be true.

You usually see these type of scams when selling a car. Some guy in the UK, or wherever sees your car, sas he'll pay the list price if you help him out. He'll send you a certified cheque for the cost of the car plus $1000(Or whatever $ he says) to cover the shipping if you organize the shipping for him.
You say yes, get the cheque in a couple days, deposit it in the bank, and ship the car to the address he gave you. A week later the bank calls to say the cheque is a fraud, and your car is long gone. This is a huge scam and been around forever.

it's a bit fishy. if there's anything your unsure of, ask! they shouldnt have a problem with answering all your questions, or else it's probably not safe to deal with. I bought my car off of ebay, and was satisfied although paint was a bit faded, but seller lowered the price in return so I was indeed satisfied. Please be careful, and get every bit of info you can get to make sure you are secure.
