Auto insurance tax return?

Hey guys,

Just wanted to know are we able to claim auto insurance in our tax return? This is the first year that i've had auto insurance so unsure about this. Thanks

I would think not unless you are self employed. In other words, if you get a regular paycheck with cpp, ie, and tax deductions, no.

^^Agreed. I'm pretty sure if you claim auto insurance, it can only be as part of business expenses - ie., a car owned by your business and used for business purposes. If you are self-employed, you could write it off partially, in proportion to how much the vehicle is used for business versus personal use - ie, you should be recording mileage for business use.

Insurance

Insurance is deductable only if you require your car for work and your employer provides you with a T-2200 form
