Attention Calgary Members - Porsche Club Autocross
Guys,
The Porsche Club has an autocross booked at race city speedway for Tuesday July 5th (tomorrow). I am inviting you to attend and participate. We usually get about 10 Porsches and a handful of other makes (Audi, BMW, Vipers, Trans Ams, Corvettes, Austin Mini, etc.) We use the south end of the road course. If you have ever wanted to try driving at the track now is your chance. You will need a Snell rated helmet and your car will have to be in good mechanical condition. It's free to come spectate and only $35 if you want to run. We start at 6:00 PM and go until it gets dark or everyone is tired of driving. Usually it gets dark first
Don't be intimidated by the cars - several of the Porsches are older models that make far less power than you do. Besides, it's all for fun anyway. PM me if you are interested in running as space is limited. I look forward seeing you out there!

Ed,
Yes I just bought an FD. It's a black 1993 R1 from Utah. The seller had pictures posted at:

I have since removed the Mazda banner from the windsheild. It needs a little TLC but otherwise seems like a pretty solid car. I've ordered the parts needed to make it legal to register in Canada. It should be on the road by the end of the month. Just for kicks I'm going to have to put my helmet on and see if I fit in it.
As a note I would like to thank the guys that showed up to the Porsche Club event. I think a good time was had by all. It was especially impressive to see two GT3's come out to the track and lay down some impressive times. What we need is a hotshoe FD driver to show up and give them a run for their money (Hint: edv.......calling edv......) My friend with his Viper also showed and did damn well for a guy who had a) never been to a track in his life and b) didn't know the lines at this particular track. Our rotary representatives did well too by placing in the middle of the pack. Not too bad for guys who have also never been to the track. If they improve their times a little more they would be more than competitive. I think everyone who was there had a good time and I hope that the next one will be as successful.

Hey Eric,
Had an awesome time last night, it was cool to see all those cars racing, especially the two RX7s. Its to bad Graeme didnt take his out (or did he and I missed it?) next time maybe. Would have liked to see Chris run a couple more times, he definatly could have come down some more from what you guys were saying. I dont remember if I told you but thanks for the invite out, really appreciated it. Hope to see you all and hopefully more next month.

It was nice meeting up with you as well.. hopefully we can get you out there running as well next time !. Graham said he'll run next time, and 86J has said he'd be out again (and we know he drives better than I do).. Maybe Eric can get his FD roadworthy by that point as well..I took a look at the schedule, and it looks like the the next track day is going to be August 2nd ... that's not too far away ....

That will work out perfect, Im going back to BC the weekend before and I'll be back on the 1st, Also I work till 6:30 so I wont be there till 7:00.
Sure.....that explains why the N/A RX7 was so close to your lap times. It was the car. How much do you want to bet that his is all stock? I'm thinking that if he had two more runs at it he would have posted a better time than Annie......correction Gr-annie.
Interesting enough though I think that you were the only turbocharged vehicle there. The Mini Cooper was supercharged (running 4 seconds a session faster than our hero) but I can't think of anyone who was turbocharged.
So Mr Ng, did you buy your new brakes yet?

Chris is taking such abuse, I'll back him up
His times got better with every lap. I think a ride along with one of the guys who's run that course on a regular basis and knows the line would make a big difference. In addition I agree with Chris, the T2 brakes suck ***, I have little to no faith in mine as well. **** mine fade all to hell on a good day on the street, having an exhuast manifold that touches the ABS controller doesnt help but...... It's easy for me to tell Chris to take that first turn with more speed, but I'm not behind the wheel. The suspension setups on most of those cars are heads and tails above ours. The mini cooper is a friggin go kart, the Porsche's are just that Porsche's, and the Viper has enough torque that on that small circuit if you have a half decent line you can muscle your way around. Chris and I both run coilovers, but speaking for myslef I don't know much about them. Mine are setup so the ride on the street is bearable and the ride height is decent other than that....The turbo Chris and I have takes some time to get on boost, most of those turns are so tight together you can't ever get the car up to full boost before you have to down shift again or upshift. How's that for some excuses?
Just laying the ground work for when I run a shitty *** time.

Not sure what track that is.. but here's the part of the track we ran marked out...
As for Eric's comments on my slowness.. I betcha I get around alot quicker than someone who has to
1) Pull over because they overheated on the 3rd turn
2) Drive the course in a 1/2 ton pickup truck
3) Push their porsches around the track because it's still not running
Aug 2nd.. start laying your bets.. I will beat mr dumas by at least 1 second...
