Anyone using a cat with no pump?
I just came in and smell like pure Xhaust!..I mean Gag!..haha!
Has anyone just used a Catalytic with no pump on a "big setup"?.
I know when I take my Stage 3 BNR turbo off the FC and go to a T04 there is gonna be no room for an air pump, and I can't see running an Electric air pump constantly.
Ideas?.thanks.STYX!~

If you use a modern 3 way convertor you don't need an air pump at all. Problem is finding one that will hold up to the punishment you'll be putting it through. I ran a magnaflow convertor on my old GXL for a long time. It smelled worse though than the open exhaust. I've just gotten used to smelling like I've been out on a sled all day after I'm done driving my cars. Gotta love the smell of 2 stroke!

I've had an email exchange with Magnaflow regarding their metal 3 way cats (looking for a cat for my Cosmo) and they basically said that as long as ratios were near stoich, and the cat was mounted a little farther from the exhaust ports in a rotary application vs a piston application, no air pump is required nor recommended. The tune is the most important part. Running a cat rich will cause a massive rotten egg smell, and decrease the life of the cat. Magnaflow said the ceramic version should not used on a rotary.
Vibrant makes a similar metal cat and they say the same thing.

Thanks for responding Aaron.
So,it would be OK to run a metallic substrate cat then?( is that what they call them?).
...
Granted I am used to the smell but I find it annoying that I smell like fuel when I enter an establishment..(I would rather smell like cologne!)

The spun metallic cats are a bit more expensive but that's what you want. At least 3".
