Another warning about Mosport

Unfortunately, this one is from first-hand experience. Fortunately, the stars were aligned and I got out of it without any damage to the car and myself. This occured during the final session of the Solosprint event this weekend. I caught the bump at the first apex that unsettled the rear...tried to save it by getting on the throttle harder with an armful of countersteer and found myself staring down the tirewall dead-on. At that point, I decided if I'm going to hit the wall, I'd rather do it with the rear so I yanked the steering wheel the other way, waited till the car rotated and locked the tires. Could I have done things differently? Maybe...but I think I made the right decision of damage control as soon as things got out of hand. I have one more school event at Mosport where I will be taking it very easy. I will not be back at Mosport at speed without a cage.

Someone I know was at the top of turn 2 with his camera so I'll never forget it.

Right click, save as pls.

Oh yeah, another interesting thing is that on Saturday morning, racerjason and I were chatting at the top of turn 2 and he mentioned that bump. His words were "Once you find that bump, you never want to find it again." I definitely never want to find it again.

The people on the vid were right.... I would need a change of pants after that. Good save from alot of possible damage.

Also, just thought it was funny the guy that goes by after in the viper is my neighbour... I'll have to show him the video.

That got the old ticker going, huh?
Sounded like you were on and off the throttle just before losing the rear end. Must have been the bump?
Regardless it was a good save!

We saw you lapping earlier on Sat. You were moving very nicely! We heard the guy in the BMW M3 (who happened to be a director of solo?) was passing people left, right and center on Sat! It was funny hearing all the talk over the radio regarding that guy.

Your car didn't display any roll or any jumpiness during the lapping session... I guess that bump came out of no where?

When's the next lapping day?

Lates,

I'm actually more scared now after watching the vid than when it happened. It didn't seem like it happened that quickly while in the car. At the lapping session speeds, the car was perfectly stable - we were going a lot slower than a normal lap. After watching the vid some more, it seems that maybe the bump didn't unsettle the car as much as I thought. What happened was the jolt from the bump took my foot off the throttle for an instant. Yikes. Live and learn...

good save there.
That corner is a brutal one, especially if you don't know the track.

Seen ya on the free lapping at lunch time and couldn't keep up.
Even though your spin was long and close you didn't do any damage like the other second gen (Chris?) that spun in front of me on the lapping and nearly clipped the inside wall on turn 3. I think he loosened his front bumper.

Har, Har, Har, welcome to the club. You ain't pushing unless that happens once a weekend. Don't know if I would have shared that video, LOL.

Actually you were doing a great job until self preservation took over and you lifted. If you had kept stabbing the throttle, the car would have aligned itself on the exit. Trust me, when I say that I have been there and done the same exact things and when you are going at 150 kmh everything becomes a lot more serious. The bump in 2 is the one place where it can catch a rookie out really easy. What I do is lift before the bump, bang over it then wait for the car to settle down before getting back on the throttle hard. Its not fun and it is one place where really good shocks almost eliminate the transitional upsets.

Really glad that nothing happened other than you needing a new set of shorts. Real question is, did you get back out there again.

Mosport is very fast and small issues can become big issues really quick and usually end in the wall.

Eric

Nice Save! Too bad about the underwear being a write off! LOL
I would have filled my shorts and the drivers compartment as well.
Looks like you were having a blast until that moment.
Good luck getting the brown spot off the seat.
