Annual Detroit Autoshow Gathering
Every year a number of us go the Detroit Autoshow. This year's show is January 17-25. Some of us carpool down or meet at the show. It's a little early but just trying to get the ball rolling. Please indicate which date (wkend) is best for you.

I'm planning to attend. Due to my harrowing journey to AutoRama last year, I've decided that I'll be driving down the day before the show and staying overnight until show day. Thus I won't be taking part in any caravans. But I'd be happy to meet up (for once, can we actually make this work by picking a time/place and then sticking with it?) at the show.

I agree with userjh5174, it was pretty lame last year. A whole slew of additional manufacturers are skipping this year's show.
While I realize AutoRama was a horrible trip, that's pretty gay of you. Driving on any road during winter involves some level of risk, albeit reasonably small. Buy some snow tires for the Insight. Bridgestone RE92s are not some magic tire for the Insight.

Ya, now that I think about it last years show was kinda lame except for the Furai. Oh well, we could always do the Toronto show. I want to play with my new DSLR camera.

"Perhaps you are a homosexual?"
The tires were not the issue last year. Mainly, the 8" of snow, zero visibility and maximum speed of 30 MP/H to Windsor was. I've really had no issues with the stock tires and a set of snow tires would not have helped last year.
The benefit of driving there a day early is not being rushed, and being able to sleep in a bit the day of the show.
I'm rather interested to see the direction manufacturers are taking with plug in hybrids and pure electric vehicles. Of course, Honda will be unveiling the new "Insight" so I'd like to register my complaint with them as well.

It's not an Insight. They've made a Honda Prius and then stuck the Insight name on it. It's like Mazda calling a Miata an "RX-7" because the name has a history.

It's "maybe you are a homosexual," and how did you know?!
See the attached .zip file (.wav inside).
While I'm pretty sure your situation was worse that anything I've experienced, but I've driven to mississauga at 40km/h the entire distance. Snow tires work better in the winter, period.
I'm sure the contracted booth spokesperson will be sure to mention it at the next board meeting.
Don't forget to ask if they come with the car.
It's possible there will be some interesting cars, but the withdrawl of so many manufacturers, the preceived focus on the big 3 and the decreasing significance of the detriot show makes me question how many truely interesting cars there will be.

I think only Nissan is out for the volume manufacturers, but there will be no Ferrari, Porsche (two years now) and some others. The Japanese companies are assuming that the big 3 will capture all the attention and supposidly will not be showing anything monumental.
I had the wav file on my computer from the old Simpsons website I made in 1994.

well, I didn't go last year so maybe I'll go this year.
I usually park in windsor and take the bus across, much better chance of having your car still there when you come back to it.
