79 t0 84 strut conversion Ontario
I posted this in the new member technical, but in the spirit of keeping it local, I'll post it here.
Gradually upgrading my 79 RX7 on a limited budget.
I have a Mazdaspeed racing LSD in a '79 drum braked rear housing. Don't want to lose it for the time being, so I am not looking to go to an 84/85 GSL-SE rear end.
Bolt pattern is the 110mm and I have 7' rims for that. Cannot buy new rims ATM.
Here is the question.................
If I get a set of 84/85 front struts, are the spindles and struts not the same on all models, whether, GS, GSL, or GSL-SE?????????????
Meaning that after obtaining 84/85 Front struts and spindles, I could start with front hubs/discs with a 110mm bolt pattern and later when I can afford a rear end swap, switch everything over to a 4.5" bolt pattern without changing struts or spindles????????
This would allow me to buy springs and front shocks now that would work for everthing, I think.
Thoughts?

According to Rockauto.com the part numbers for both the GS/GSL and the GSL-SE inner and outer wheel bearings are the same. This would imply that the spindles themselves are the same diameter and length.

love the braaaap
All 84-85 RX-7's used the same spindle size/wheel bearings. Upgrading from the 4x110 pattern on these spindles to the 4x114.3 would be as simple as changing the hubs, calipers and caliper mounting brackets I believe for GSL-SE units. Wheel offset will change however, since -SE used a higher offset wheel, and the only way to get the 4x114.3 in the rear is to get custom made axle shafts/brake disks or swap the entire rear end for the -SE unit.
