Talking 5 Lug Wheel OffSets

I know that a couple of 5 lug guys have used Mustang Wheels on their cars. They bolt on, but what size wheel spacer is used. How do they fit in the wells?

Seeing that I may have both a Mustang and the RX as race cars soon, I am thinking of converting my car to a 5 lug set up (I know Al has been bugging me about it for years) and want to know how difficult it would be to use similar wheels, say 17x8 front and 17x9 rears. Gotta love grip,LOL.

If the answers work out I may have 5 sets of 4 lug 15x7 wheels for sale and rear uprights with toe eliminators and new bearings, front and rear hubs with 3" Moroso studs and a ton of lightly used single piston front and rear Hawk race pads.

Well I use 17x8 Muatang GT wheels on the street. They're a 30mm offset and you don't need any spacers at all to use them with up to at least a 225, maybe a 245 will need a small spacer and a fender roll. I think the stock 17x9's are a 24mm offset which should fit in the rear just fine.

Stock Mustang wheels are cheap and readily available, but heavy. My 17x8's are supposedly the lightest of them all, but they're about 20lbs, and the 15's are about 16lbs or so I've heard.

99-01 cobra 17X8s look really good and are the right size. Not 100% sure on the offset, though. Close to 35 though I'm sure because if guys are running them with a 245 up front and 275 in the rear with some occasional rubbing, they have to be close to perfect.

But damn ... mustange wheels are so damn heavy!!

Get the vert BBS rims @ 11lbs each and call it a day.

He didn't specifically say stock Mustang wheels, just the same wheels on both.

All of the 17x8's from the 96(?) to the new body style are all 30mm offset.

17x8 +35 with a 225/40 series, and in the rear 17x9.5 265/40's just fit...

the Mustangs run +30 offset. Which is perfect for FCs. You can run 245 on the front with a +30 offset. The rear will pretty much take anything.

245/50/17 tire is perfect on a 17x8" wheel. Problem is mustang wheels (even the cobra wheels are heavy... 31 lbs each). Compare that to the stock 1989 S5TII turbo meshies at 16 lbs made by Enkei, or the BBS vert rims at 11 lbs... wowsers! I guess you don't have to worry about pot holes with the mustang wheels.

That would be a 245/40/17, a 50 series would be WAY too tall. It'll depend on the tire and the suspension if it'll fit on the inside, as some tires are wider than others in the same size and some suspensions give more clearance than others. From what I've seen it seems that everyone whose used the stock Mustang 245/45/17 size has had rubbing issues, so if you want to run a 235 or 245 be prepared to roll the fenders at least, but that's no big deal on a racecar.

My wheels are about 20lbs (not 31lbs like you're talking about), which isn't that bad for a 17x8, and you're comparing them to smaller diameter and narrower wheels (16x7 and 15x6.5), so of course they're heavier. I keep seeing people quote them as being 17lbs but I think that weight is an internet myth that people keep quoting as I've never seen it confirmed. Enkei makes a couple RPF1's in nice sizes for us, a 17x8 35mm offset and a 17x8.5mm offset, each at about $250/ea and 15.5lbs, would make a great choice IMHO.

Talking Thanks for the Help!!!!

Thanks to everyone for their help. It looks like I will be keeping the 4x114.3 wheels and hubs for now as I have 6 sets of 15x7 wheels.

My plans look like they are changing and I may have 2 cars to run for next year and they will both be 4x114.3, just different offsets. I want to run in both the CCTCC with the new car if I can pull off the deal and the potential new OTCC in my RX7.

Further updates will come along as issues get dealt with and the deal gets firmed up.

Eric
