3 Hour Sundowner at Mosport over Victoria Day Weekend
Hey guys, my other program hasn't been finalised as of yet, it has to go through the corporate machinations, so I am looking at doing the 3 Hour Race at Mosport during the Victoria Day Weekend. We are planning on using the RX7 and my co-driver is flying in from Vancouver to run with me. The 3 Hour Race is at the end of the day on Saturday, so I only need of a couple of people for 1 day. We will need to do at least 2 pitstops and maybe 3 and I am filled with joy to admit that we will be running the #23 RX7, as its a ton cheaper to run. Fuel for the Cougar to run the car for 3 hours would be over $1,000 by itself. I have all the safety equipment for the refuelers and we will be using 5 gallon jugs to refuel. You will need to be at the track from about 8:00 am till about 8:00 pm on the Saturday. As we have to refuel a couple of (maybe a few) times, we won't have a chance at an overall win, but we should have a good chance in GT4 as the RX7 should just keep howling around the track.
It will be a good weekend as there will be other races with the Trans Am Series, the World Challenge Series and the Castrol Touring Car Series. The race entry will allow you to go back to Mosport on Sunday to watch the big races.
I know its kinda last minute, but I was waiting for the other deal to get finalized and right now I am scrambling a bit. I am just trying to determine if I can get everything together in time and the second most crucial thing is refueling crew. The good thing is that the car, support equipment and the drivers are ready, I just need to put together the $$$$ and crew.
Let me know if anybody is interested.

Sounds like an awesome time, and it would go nicely with the Sherway meet the day after. I might just give you guys a hand. Then you would have a licenced tech on your team. How soon do you beed to know by?
Reality Check
My crew chief, Dave, gave me a reality check last night. He said why are you spending a couple of grand to do this race when you don't know how long the car will run on a tank of fuel.
The big issue I have with the RX7 is that it has a 10 gallon tank and it used to barely make 1 hour with 164 hp when everything was stock. When we ran the new motor with a Holley on it and making 189 rwhp it used to only go about 55 minutes. Now that we are running about 220 rwhp, but with fuel injection, I have no idea if we can last longer than before or substantially less. Al Balinsky has a similar package but with a lighter car and about 40 hp more power. Wiith a peri port, Al can only make about 30 minutes on a 15 gallon cell worth of fuel.
That is why I want to test at Shannonville on the holiday Monday. If I could only make about 30 minutes on a tank, then I would be looking at about 5 stops for the 3 hour in the RX7. This would more than likely put me dead last in the event. I have a bigger tank, but it really screw up the handling when I use it.
We were thinking about using the Cougar, but the Cougar would need at least 2 and more than likely 3 stops in a 3 hour race. This would not be optimum and the fuel costs would be $1000 +.
Sorry we will not be able to do the spring 3 Hour and if we can get 1 hour out of a tank, then we will be doing the fall 3 hour and the rest of the GT Challenge Series.

It will be good to see another RX-7 in the GT Challenge/Sprints. Right now there is only our FD and a red FC. No more CanSaf 3-rotor or Mazdees.
We attempted the Challenge race with our #171 FD at Mosport last weekend, but the car was undriveable in the horrific weather. We did finish 2nd in GT2 and 5th overall in the Sprints on Sunday, though! We're pretty stoked!
Hope to see you out there soon!
