3 Hour Indian Summer Trophy Race and Stuff

Two important questions. The first is that we are going to be running the RX7 monster in the BEMC 3 Hour Enduro this Saturday at Mosport and I need 1 more crew guy to help hold the extinguisher while the car is being refueled. You will need to be dressed up in full race gear and I have a couple of sets of spare equipment that you can use. So while you don't actually get to race the car, you do get to look the part on pit lane and go over the wall during pit stops. I would just like to manage the day rather than getting involved in refueling the car.

Now the more important question. I have read all the different techniques about how to remove the front eccentric shaft bolt and have tried most of them including heating things up with a propane torch and hitting it with an air gun, locking down the eccentric shaft and using a breaker bar with a long pipe on the end (managed to shear off two bolts in the pulley hub) and the starter trick. Anyone have any ideas or should I just leave things as they are and try again when I can get a gas torch to loosen off the Loctite?

For the new guys, this is what the car looks like. For this race we will turn down the max rpm to about 8,000 rpm. This will prevent the new drivers from killing the motor and also give us the added benefit of improving our fuel mileage.

Nobody is interested in helping??? Nobody wants to be part of the ST2 Class winning team (potentially)? An easy, fun way to get on the inside and have all kinds of photos taken of you in full dress, so you can brag to your buds.

Lock the flywheel, get the bolt red hot and use a long breaker bar. If you don't have an amazing impact gun with air pressure/flow to back it up, the impact doesn't have enough force to break off the stubborn ones but doing it by hand always works.

I'll be at Mosport tomorrow with the rotary miata.

1st place ST2 class in the GT Challenge 3 Hour. We just took it really easy for the race as there were only 18 cars entered. We finished 11th overall with 2 rookie drivers. I was chomping a little at the bit watching them lap up to 11 seconds a lap slower than I do. By the end the one driver was down to 1:40 flat. The other managed to pull off a high 1:42 on the last lap. Made me wonder where that time was earlier......

Car ran very well all race.

Congrats on the win. Your car ran pretty consistent and the drivers got used to it throughout the race.

Our car kept getting these random issues. First the oil pan was too full so it started spitting out excess oil that needed g's to happen. Once it spit out what it wanted, it was fine. Then the seat rail mounts decided they've had enough and started unlocking randomly until we jammed them. Last 20 minutes, the car started to miss and we called it before hurting anything serious hopefully. Still have to figure out what's up but my guess is leaned out as the exhaust was pretty damn white and the rear bumper melted around the exhaust, something it never did before last year. The car hadn't run since last year so we probably should have run a test day, meh.

Are you coming down to the 13 hour?

Your car ran well out on the track, but I was wondering if something was different than normal as it had a really really crisp note.

I almost pooped myself when one of the drivers looped my car coming out of 10 and managed to bring it to a halt about 6 inches from the wall.

Won't be doing the 13 hour as the car pretty much used up a gearbox during the race and I have to get it ready for October 5th at TMP.

Oh man, when I heard the tires screeching and turned around and theres a car sliding at us, was quite the surprise. My first reaction was to grab the clipboard oddly and then step back lol. Lawrence didn't even move I, guess he know it was ok. Luckily the next guy behind him was pretty far back so it gave lots of time for him to turn around and get back on.

We thought for sure that he had flat spotted the tires, but no they worked very well afterwards. The car was running on the new Toyo RR's and the tires looked great after the race. In fact the whole car was looking very good.

For the race, I dropped the rev limiter to start soft touching at 8,000 and hard cut at 8,200 to try to get more fuel mileage. Forgot to change the shift light, so they were having to shift when the car started to pop on the limiter. The car was getting about 70 minutes on a tank. That was great. Also, the TPS kept swinging out of adjustment. I recalibrated it 2 times that day and after about 3 laps it moved again. I am going to have to put a new TPS in there as well.

Other than that, the brakes look great, engine temps are great, engine runs really strong and no other issues other than the gearbox feels really strange and all loose inside. I think its all worn out, finally LOL.

A short video of the start of the race from outside the car. Gives you guys a feel for whats going on. It was a slim field, so it would be good to get more cars out for next year. maybe I need to run both cars........ NOT. Don't need the logistical headaches.
