3 Hour Indian Summer Trophy Race
We will be bringing the #23 RX7 out again to run in the 3 Hour Enduro at Mosport on September 17th. Its a great event and very fun as we end up having to make 2 pitstops for fuel and there is a ton of fun and usually some craziness that goes on. Nummelin Motorsport Group has done this enduro for the last 5 years and its a great way to really see what the car can do. The race is usually well attended and has seen grids of well over 30 cars for the last few years.
There have been a lot of changes to the car since the last enduro where we misfired and popped to the finish. The most major transformative change was the installation of the race plugs (thanks Al!) which have transformed the car. It now pulls hard and runs the way we would like it to. Other things we will have on the car are the new splitter and belly pan setup, the new brakes, a substantial change in ride height, a new tune on the Megasquirt and we are going back to the higher rear wing that we used to run a few years ago.
We are looking forward to the event and with some hard work, we should be able to substantially improve on last years finishing position. I just need to confirm my co-driver and we are good to go. I am very enthused about the #23 car again as a number of issues have been overcome and this will be a good test of the setup.
So if you are available on the 17th, in the late afternoon, come on out to Mosport and see whats up. We need to run the car hard for 3 hours straight and just finishing is a plus, but finishing well is a great bonus.

It is a great event with a variety of classes racing throughout day. I have attended the last couple of years. I plan to go again to take some pics. I believe you can get free tickets from the Mosport website.

Car prep coming along nicely. We have already changed the map a bit by leaning it out and taking a bit of timing out of higher rpm. I have changed the gear lube to see if that could have been why my gears were grinding a bit a Shannonville at the end of the day. Low and behold, the existing gearlube ran out of the box like water. I replaced it with Redline MT 90 and we should be good to go there.
Painted the hood yesterday so no more black hood. I have gone to a white hood to match the rest of the car and it really looks great. Going to roll it out today and pull the front wheels off to repack the front bearings. I will also use this time to polish up the wheels and just do a basic nut and bolt on the front end. I will also be measuring up the area so that I can build my new front splitter. I want to get the front end planted at higher speeds. Its easier to add aero grip at the rear, just need to change the angle of attack on the rear wing. The front end is harder, so I have been reviewing information on front splitters and I am going to build something like the attached, though without the 400 splitter vanes.
Started work on the new shock setup. It looks like its going to be a bit tough, so lots of thinking and planning will be required and its going to take longer than the next 2 weeks to pull off. I may have to rethink the whole front end design to make it happen, but that won't be bad as I can add my bumpsteered front spindles to the whole thing and do it right.
Main thinking item is still the cold air box and the pulley set. Checked into it and can't get a pulley set in quick enough, so I am going to have to use my Racing Beat Underdriven Eccentric Shaft pulley as a stop gap. The cold air box needs to be small enough to fit into the area I have available and big enough to provide enough air to all the ITB throats. Lots of thinking required on this one.
I also want to go through the car and reduce weight if I can.......
I am working on getting a "qualified" co-driver (thanks for all the offers, LOL), but I will do the whole 3 Hours if I need to. Things are coming along very well and I am getting more and more excited about running the car again. Its amazing how pumped I am, all because of a set of spark plugs, LOL.
Will keep you guys updated.

Underhood Shots
Not very "chromey" or polished, just what the car needs to make power and be reliable. Built on a very "Real life" budget.
Man, its amazing how much excitement that a set of plugs has caused, LOL.

that car is an inspiration. if you dont mind me asking, what intake/tb is that? or is it custom made? iv always wanted to find a fuel injected setup that exposes the engine like that. i was going to do the carb lim with a borla tb.
anyways car looks awesome!

love the braaaap
Hmmm, this might make for a good final trip of the season, and first trip for my 79. Will have to see if I can make it, but I would love to see this race, since I haven't before.

Thanks for the comments. Wait until after this winter when I get the 3 ways on the car and put the bump steered spindles on. I am just so jazzed about this car again, now that it is reliable and fast.

Go Hard....or Go Home
I believe that Nummelin Motorsports and Alan Balinsky Racing have come to terms on the drivers agreement for the 3 hour this weekend at Mosport. Its now up to the logisitics people to see if the final deal can be put together

We have tried to put the logistics together to run the 3 Hour, but it just couldn't be completed in time. I want to thank Alan Balinsky Racing for releasing their driver to race in the event and I hope that he will be available in the Spring.
What is going to happen and for RX7 fans it is better, is that both Al and I will be racing our RX7's in the Sunday Sprint Races. As we are entering for the Sunday only, we will be starting from the back of the grid and having to work our way up through the field. Should be a fun day and involve lots of passing. It will be a great event to attend as both white RX7 cars, the 01 and the 23, will be running at the same time in the same class. This is a very rare event and should not be missed.
Come on out and say hi to both Al and myself and take a look at the cars. You will get 2 20 minute races to see the cars in action.
