2nd Gen Friendly Insurance Companies
Well I got a quote from state farm today for 7 ******* grand just to drive my stockish 87 NA. I nearly **** myself and I was pretty angry...now I have 1 ticket which was a 15 over ticket which doesn't make sense that it ***** my insurance up that much.
I need a list of FC friendly companies that I can call or whatever and get quotes from. If Its more than 3k a year I can't afford it.

When I put my FC on the road I was 20 with no tickets, and I had my own insurance since I was 17. I think it cost me $1200 a year through wawanesa insurance. I deal through a broker so they shop around for the best rate.

When I bought a car In Barrie, I registered it in Smiths Falls and got my insurance there too.Cheaper.I had a working address and my old home address.,so it was totally legitimate.

Belair won't insure it they said its too old, because its an 87. TD quoted me 7 grand once upon a time i'll try again. DGI quoted me a lot before, but I can try again.
Whats a group rate? I know nothing about insurance. I'm 20 years old and my only ticket was over a year ago.
I've never tried Wawanesa ill try calling somebody and getting a quote...I'll also look up Aviva.
Car isn't stock..its modified with stock parts though. Like I have an 88 motor and tranny, 5 lug conversion, TII brakes, Manual Rack conversion, short throw shifter, strut bar, s5 tails.

DGI won't even let me get a quote you can't do anything older than 95..RBC quoted me 4500 and TD wants me to send a form in so they can go **** themselves. I think I'm gonna start calling brokers, and I'm gonna call one of the wawanesa brokers in Barrie.
Group rates are like group buys for insurance, I get one through work, or I can use my College Alumni group rate, CAA offers them as well I think; if you belong to some sort of organization they generally can give you discounts on insurance.
Its hard to insure a 20 or older car, if its your first time with the company.
Go straight to a broker, and you still might have to bend over.
you will need
-recent safety
-car appraisal ( sometimes the insurance company will send their man )
-Pictures of car
And just in case if you have a aftermarket muffler, try and source an oem or stock looking one.

With an old car this is the way to go unless you have a bank loan for it . I never had collision coverage on an older car when I was in Ontario . StateFarm was always reasonable when I was younger ... sounds like things have gone in the *******
making a claim for a collision you caused will cost you more in the long run . Get a quote for liability and property damage. Knowing you have no covergae for your own repairs will also make you drive safer . Insurrance companies know this and should reduce rates .

ourxseven thats exactly what I went to do, minimal coverage and the quote was still massive. I'm not sure what to do, I still got 2 years before this ******* ticket is gone. I can't believe how bad 1 ticket fucked me over, I'm definitely gonna drive a lot more carefully now.
Who is your protege insured with ? If you have a daily driver car with an insurance company , insuring the rx7 as a weekend car should be around $ 50-100 a month for even you.
But then again some insurance companies have clauses that wont let you have more than 1 car insured at a time till your 25.

Call a broker. Let them do the work for you. You can also get a multiple vehicle discount if you switch your Protege over as well. The only hoop I had to jump through to insure my FB was going to a glass shop and having him take a couple pictures and fill out the corresponding paperwork. I was 21 at the time with 1 speeding ticket and I was paying less than $4K/year for full coverage. I can't wait until June when I turn 25 and my rates drop.
Alrighty, well thats the plan I'm gonna call up a broker. But my 7 needs some work so probably in a month or 2 it'll be good depending on how much time I spend on it.
Here's my experience. A lot depends on whether or not you drive it daily. Age is the other major factor, and of course offences.
I used to pay about 80 a month when I was late 20's. I'm 32 now. The 80 was through Pilot Ins., but then I finally said I'd had enough. I knew if anything happened to the car they'd give me book value, which for an 89 was a few hundred bucks. So I was paying for collision and lia., and it didn't make sense. They had no idea my car is an absolutely mint example of an RX-7 with 70k original kms on the clock. Nor did they care. The coverage was useless for what I really needed out of the arrangement.
So last year I looked into classic car insurance. You get an appraisal (costs about $200 for the appraisal one time), then you apply for classic ins. They pegged value of my car at $10k, and applied for classic insurance with zero drama. My rate last year was $230 for the whole year. I just got a renewal the other day and now it's even less. $206 a year! Covered for fire, theft, coll., lia. I've got a 10 over on file, and they're still lowering my insurance without me even asking! How's that for understanding.
It's critical that you only drive occasional, as they won't apply classic ins otherwise, but if that fits what you do with the car, then I would highly recommend this route.

This is the situation I faced... if you know the ins. isn't going to give you peanuts on a coll. claim, then there's no use in paying for it. It's likely much to your advantage just to put liability on.
Oh yeah, and one thing I forgot to mention about the classic ins... I think there's an age of operator minimum. If everything meets the criteria though... like I said, I had absolutely no drama in setting up a policy.
