Enjoy your gene pool pollution. I for one, just keep adding chlorine... :P

The rest of this isn't directed at you per say, just clarification of my transmissions and a rant.

No, I have never street raced. In the 15 years I have been driving, the only time I have ever raced was at the track.

It was actually two transmissions that I tore up in "passing maneuvers". The first was when I dumped it into 3rd and hammered it because the big diesel behind me decided to change lanes almost onto me at exactly the same time I had made a proper lane change. It was a 100KM/H zone and the transmission broke at about 5500 RPM in 3rd. The second time was the exact same maneuver, except I was driving with friends on a back road (90KM/H zone) and we all passed a truck which was moving under the speed limit. Dumped it into 3rd, punched the throttle and "bang!". I then blew up my diff in September of last year at St. Thomas dragway.

It is probably very safe to say that virtually everyone here has done something on the street that could be less than legal. In fact, it is probably safe to say that the majority of drivers have done something that is less than legal. From unsafe passing, to 150 KM/H on the 401, to pulling out in front of everyone, etc. We all do make mistakes. Some of us take our driving very seriously and enjoy not only the performance of a highly modded car but the responsibility of it as well. I mostly limit my stupidity to on the track, or a few 0-100 KM/H runs with lots of tire spin for a silly YouTube video, on roads that have no human life within 3 miles and might see 1 or two vehicles a day.

But it is few, if any, of us that act like the human garbage shown on this video. Those asshats were playing it up for the camera and revelling in the fact they are complete dirtbags. Then the media are a bunch of douche nozzles for blowing it out of proportion. The police shown are douches because they are puppets of the politicians. The politicians are complete wastes of protein because they just use the street racing scare to win support from a ****-ignorant public. And the public are horse-humping thundercunts because they are sheeple who, if faced with something like "personal responsibility", would explode in a shower of logic.

Can street racing be stopped? Well, we just need to look at other crimes for the answer. Obviously there are never any murders because murder is illegal, so making huge ridiculous laws like HTA172 is of course the solution to street racing.

The problem is not one of legality, or enforcement. The problem is one of stupidity. Kids are stupid. They don't make very good decisions. Adults are stupid, they don't make very good decisions. Our driver education is a complete and absolute farce of what it should be. It is far too easy to receive and maintain a license. If the problem was properly tackled not through enforcement but through education, we would see a reduction in what is still a minor problem, driving problems wise. But education is not politically helpful, only enforcement is because so and so in office is "tough on street racing" and "thinks of the children". That is how a politician wins votes, not by saying "We are going to overhaul all the drivers licensing requirements by introducing stricter testing, mandatory bi-yearly retests and required car control courses...Oh, and now it costs $500 to get a license and $100 every 2 years for the retest". The public would chew him up and poop him out before the sentence was finished. Yet this, and this alone, is the thing that will solve most of our driving problems. And as people learn a respect for the activity of driving, the street racing "problem" will reduce.

Of course, compared with the real problems on the road, street racing barely warrants a second glance when one considers, for example, the effects of talking on a cell phone while driving.

Frankly though, with all of the tracks in Ontario, why even bother with the streets? Pay the $20 to do your drag racing in a safe and fun environment

Its stated in the title, and they say it in the documentary that they are in 98.... and its from A&E. you can look at most of the models of cars, it gives a hint too.

btw, no need to get all offended about street racing....
its fun once in a while, BUT mostly without bystanders... OH, and on the highway.

1/4 mile sucks.... highway top speed runs are way more fun !!!

Secret street at the track, pay $30 to spend 4 hours being lucky enough to get 3 runs on some friday nights here. Something is always broken with the timing system.

I point out who I would like to run against, since I expect high 13's, **** that, they line me up against a known 11 sec car. I waited an hour for that?

On the street you pick your opponent. The big difference is where and when. The big boys play where it's safe and nobody, that's "nobody" stand in front of the launch point.

.

Here in Quebec, the 2 main dragstrip ( Napierville Dragway, and Sanair ), you can either choose your opponent, or just go randomly in the line.
Some do it for themselves, simply for the thrill of going "fast", and some do it for the thrill of racing against someone.

Aaron you hit it Completly 100% on the nose There are more fatalities from inexperienced drivers in bad weather than Street racing,

It doesnt justify that its right its just something the media Blows out of proportion just like H1N1

I'd love to see the minimum age requirements for driving go from 16 to 18 at a Bare minimum and tougher testing with actual Car control courses for inclemant weather at a minimum

way to many people (markham, brampton) have noooo idea how to drive safely and defensively Ever see a traffic light go out in markham? you never want to try to drive through that intersections thats the scariest **** ever!

kids dont go to the strip because its 1.5-2 hrs away, they might get 3-4 runs in on a friday night, besides it was a tooon of fun scrambling when the cops came

even the cops dont make a big deal of it they know where we are they always show up at the same time every night and with only mayybe 2-3 cop cars for maybe 60-70 cars they could really make an effort and lock the area down and stop everyone but they know if it'll just move to the next spot

Street racing isn't the problem. ESPECIALLY organized street racing like the video shows.

the problem is inexperienced/drunk/etc drivers being idiots at stoplights.

kind of getting off topic BUT

How about retesting every 10 years?
LOL
I dont think there is a politician alive that would take on the wrath of all the bad drivers
for even suggesting retesting...

the real question is how do these people get a license in the first place?
canada's worst driver show is an example of how you dont need to know how to
drive to get a license.
I have never been to an organized street race, not to say that i havent done some silly
things on the road but after seeing the levels of incompetence on the t.v. show
I would never line up for a street race knowing that the person in the other car could
possibly be as bad a driver as seen on canada's worst driver..
Something that i never gave much thought years ago...

I'd vote for anyone who will overhaul the testing program and modify it to include things like car control, skid training, simulator driving with avoidance, etc. etc. Then by-yearly retests on the same stuff.

Learning to drive isn't actually mandatory in Ontario. Any potential driver can take the test and get their license without any formal training at all.

What I find as infuriating as the ridiculously easy license requirements is the assertion that street racing is somehow justified because there aren't any tracks around. I was not aware that one can justify illegal and dangerous action based on convenience.

And how would you rate a city like ours with a 30 year old racing facility that is allowing it's lease to expire to allow of expansion of a city landfill.

NOW, consider the fact that the landfill expansion study showed the land is not needed for at least 20 more years.

It's like closing down the park and penalizing the neighborhood kids for playing catch in the streets.

It sucks, and that is part of the problem. Maybe if the street racers put up the money to race at the track, then the track would have the money to continue operation.

We have had a similar problem here with St. Thomas dragway. They have been on the brink of closing for years because of lack of funding and issues with the neighbours (those neighbours who moved in 30 years after the track was built and now complain about "noise"). Thankfully there are new owners who seem to be investing in the track and are slowly bringing it back to where it should be.

I hear Ontario is also getting a new track up near the Toronto area, and Grand Bend is installing a road course (yay!).

Running a track has been made very difficult in the last 20 years. It is somehow politically incorrect, yet those same politicians are cashing in on street racing...hmmm...

First, I don't totally agree with bumping the age requirement to 18, the problem I see if kids (well adults at that point) don't have full drivers licenses by the time they go to post-secondary education. Also helps out the kids to get jobs since they have transportation. The new teen rules kinda make sence, it's a step in the right direction, especially with zero-alcohol until 21, I am a fan of that.

I do agree that advanced drivers training/testing would be good, but subsequent in-car testing could reak havoc in backlogs in large cities. There's already long waiting lists for just the regular G2 and G tests as it is. Mind you, if those test cost more, you'd hope the government would use that money properly and hire more testers...

I actually do. I've never been, but honestly, there's a part of me that's always wanted to spectate. For most people, you're looking at an hour and a half to 2 hours, or more, of a drive to the closest track, on a weeknight. That isn't very convinient, especially if you only get a few runs in, even worse if you break something. When I had done my KLZE swap in my MX-3, I was still living with my parents in Niagara, so Cayuga was only 40minutes away and I was literally going every week until the end of that season. When the Canadian Motor Speedway opens up in Fort Erie, than I'd have a road course only 30min away from my parents place! Anyway, one of the other problems that I've heard but never experienced is where cops are actually sitting there and waiting for people to leave the track to bust people, that is sad, very sad. They want people to take it off the streets, but that is HUGE discouragement.

Most of those organized street races, for what I gather, as done far away, in an isolate area, far away from people and traffic, they try to do it in as safe of a manner as possible. It's not those races that kill people, it's the impromptu races in busy areas, through cross streets and intersections, where there's pedistrians. I once had this kid in a Neon try to race me on Lundy's Lane, during the day, when it was busy, we both had cars in front of us too. Was he expecting a 12ft race? I will admit, I've done some stupid things in the past, I've had some fun, but I've had to put people in their places too

On a side note, a small town in central Alberta (Hanna) closes it's small airport one weekend every year for racing. They erect stands, add concessions and a show'n'shine. They even brought in a jet car.

Pretty impressive small town thinking! Not enough demand and financial support for an all year facility, but why not quench the thirst a little as best possible.

Attracted a lot of fans last year, I know I will repeat!

My rant (sorry in advance)

Its the same old B.S.
" the insurance costs and liability it to much"
the world has gone stupid.
a good friend who has a rental property got a call from his renter that there was a fire in the oven so
he rushed over to save his property fire extinguisher in hand, got there to find the r.c.m.p. on site
they started by giving him **** telling him to move his truck that the fire department is on the way
so he moves it walking up again to be told to go home that there is nothing for him to do there
he explained that its his place and he wants to try to save what ever he could.
they told him no and this was all going on while he was walking toward his property.
well the cop jumped him another cop jumps in to help
roughed him up, cuffed him and took him away charging him with interfering with a police officer!!
this cost him 10,000 to fight!
their reasoning was that once they took control of the scene they were liable and couldn't let him
in to his own place for his own safety.
another example, same area, cop stops to check on an old lady who was stuck on the side of the road
she was stuck in a snow drift (not in the ditch) so being the nice cop that he was he called her a tow truck
and waited with her.
A guy with a 4x4 truck stopped and offered to give her a tug to get out which she welcomed
BUT the cop ordered the guy to take off! telling him that he had called a tow truck who was insured
and in the business of doing this type of work, the old lady and the guy wanted to deal with it themselves
but the cop order the guy to leave or be charged with something not sure what so he did..
old lady was on her way almost a hour later and 100 dollars poorer .
wtf is this world coming to when you cant help an old lady stuck in a snow drift!

can you tell i have little respect for our local r.c.m.p.
some are even friends but that means little when they are looking down their noses at you...
