ON 1993 Silver FD3S Touring Edition on Auto Trader

Does this look legit (i.e., not a cut-and-paste job from other postings)? The price seems reasonable.

This might be the year that I take the plunge. I like the idea of having rear seats in a pinch (literally), but I'd definitely like to add the oil coolers, etc. of the R2 in good time. The leather and moonroof are unnecessary, but I wouldn't kick them out of the car for eating crackers.

I was interested in his car before, but found it had a salvage title from the US at one point.

That would explain the price. There's also the $18,000 1994 SSM in Etobicoke on Auto Trader, but it's been listed there for ages.

I looked into this one awhile back. The salesman was a bit of a d-bag. I offered $16,500 and was firm on that and he finally agreed to my price after a week or so. But in the meantime I found a local(to me) RX7 with the same mileage for much less $$, so I bought it.

The price is closer to $19,000 and I thought that was a bit rich for a car that's been sitting (rusting) on the lot for a long time. It looks like a US-originating base model.

Just looked at the ad again ... it does come with free warrenty for the first 12 months.

So potential new engine / transmission / diff if you played your cards right ... :P

If that is the case ... then the price is not so bad .... eheheheh

I scoped this car out for another friend of ours. And yes, I agree the sales guy is not realistic of the situation.
The same car during the winter months was listed for 17g's. Now he wants closer to 19g's?!?!
I went over the car and you can tell its seen some winter action. The wheel wells and the under carriage show signs of wintr driving despite the fact the sales guy said he knew the owner and how everything was kept in mint condition.
Meanwhile the exterior doors and the front fender were gauged and deeply scratched. Not to mention the typical side dents you find on the car.
I told him there arent too many of these vehicles around and even less people. I told him to rep himself for a reality check. He just got angry and insisted he won't sell the car for less than what he bought it for.
Poor thing is going to sit a long time at that rate.

The salesmen don't set the prices, his sales manager or the owner of the dealership does. And I'd bet the price is high either because they already spent a bunch of money for repairs and reconditioning, or they are trying to insure they are covered if it costs them a bunch of money after it's sold due to further repairs.

I would be interested to know what they bought it in at, and what has been done since. That's what I'd find out before making any offer.

As for the the "12 month warranty" You'd want to insure the terms, is it only that dealership where the work could be done? is it some third party company you have to submit receipts to for reimbursement? Is it underwritten? By whom? where can the repairs be done? 12 months but how many kms? What's included? what are the exemptions and exclusions? etc. etc.

Most often warranties from used car dealers aren't worth the paper they are printed on.

Bottom line, buy a car from a member that you know the history on instead of getting hosed by some dealer.

I've seen FDs sold on this forum actually worth the $19,000, but had way lower asking prices.

Some kid would have bought it for that much or more during the FnF tuner craze, but it's a harder sell now that the market has taken a reality check. It would have to be in really good shape to be worth 19 Gs... there are 2009 RX-8s selling for the same price.

Not to mention getting a car loan for anything that old is near impossible, necessitating cash in hand or using a line of credit.
