17 cylinder RX-7?!

I was at work today (I work at partsource) and got into a discussion with my manager about the driveclean program.. yes I know not again. Anyways we randomly checked the website and it had a feature where you could plug in the VIN number and it will give you a history for your car. I plugged mine in for fun... everything appeared normal except for the fact that it states my vehicle is 17 cylinders?!?

Just thought you guys would find this funny and was wondering if the same thing would come up when you plug in your cars VIN numbers.

the site was http://www.driveclean.com
if you go down you will see a link stating "Find your vehicles emissions test history"

I printed it off for proof.

yet they are require to pass with better numbers then a 1.6L BPT... better then OEm NEW numbers on the FC.

And Ford wonders why I won't come back to them to buy a vehicle.. " your the idiots who introduced E-testing to the gov't !!"

I get: No valid test record for the past 3 years found

Looks like good old Sudbury is still unaffected by those new BS laws. At least the 1987 people only have 1 more etest to do, ever!

Yeah because Ford is so concerned about one car sale to some know it all. I'm sure they went home and told their wife, "man that guy was mean I'm sure glad I didn't sell him a car"

Seems odd that you can actually get up in the morning with your head buried in your colon. if you have an issue with me, which it seems you do, then dude, grow a set and deal with it.. face to face or cry about it in PM's to anyone who will listen..

It's common knowledge that when car companies are in trouble with lagging sales.. E test pass/fail nubmers get stricter..

It's common knowledge that the Big 3 apporached the Ont. goverment years ago with the E test system.

and it's pretty clear who bennifits when a person is disgusted with trying to get thier 15 year old car to pass an etest that is stricter then the OEM emission numbers.. which this programe was never suppose to surpass.

and when you go from 00' and owning 5 Ford products, all under 2 years old at the time to owning none, my Ford sales rep and the GM of said dealership wonder about it and Do call. I'm only an idiot with guys like you .. you know, the jerks.

*Ahem...* 1.6L is a B6T

BPT is a 1.8L

This is a great tool to see if shops that do work on your car to etest actually get it to pass or not, in my case I knew that they ran another car for mine but this just proves that they did as I have a pass and a fail on the same date, pretty interesting stuff.

What gets me is that the gov't disallowed the off line testing and tuning of a car. Apparently people are just suppose to be able to roll in and have any possible problem majically mnot be there soeveryeone passes the first time.. In the real world some guy can have bad plugs and wires, not know it, be able to test off line first to find out then go and get it fixed without spending the $35 to find out they have to do it. It's really just another way for the gov't to make it more of a hassle for people to pass.
You try to be legal about passing and tune your car so it will pass.. but they don't want that.. makes ZERO sense. but then again , the testing makes no sense when one coal plant or steel mill in hamilton pumps out as much 'bad 'gas' in one day as all of Toronto's cars in one day.. and when do the rigs get tested?? there are some older 2 stroke 6's out there that SPEW crap like a victorian steel mill.

Think about this:

A car's emissions are based on parts-per-million counts of the content of the stuff coming out of the tailpipe during the test right?

What about fuel consumption per kilometre? If two cars spew out the same crap during the test, but one car goes 500km on a 40L tank and the other (SUV) goes 375km, don't they both still *burn* the 40L (even though one doesn't go as far)?

Shouldn't the pollution rating of a vehicle be a combination of its emissions and its fuel efficiency? Why can an SUV get off easy when it gives out slightly less emisisons during the test than my 7, but gets worse gas milage?

It's not actually about the Enviroment.. just selling/leasing new cars. (how does that 1978 bonneville spewing vile gasses out the back end on the 400 actually be allowed on the road, when people with 89' vehicle are failing by 2-5 ppm and not allowed to drive the car anywhere until it's fixed.) That, plus the new and utterly useful 5 temp lic. per car law now.. makes owning a used car that much more difficult. Exactly what 'they', the auto makers, want.

But I have to agree, I'd never thought about the actual ratios before.. seems to be one of those things they don't actually mention.

pfft... don't complain about the 5 temp permits... In Quebec, you're lucky if you get 3! But we don't have emissions testing. You have to go from one license buereau to the other to get someone who'll issue another temp permit, like I did when trying to get the car ready to safety. If you get a really nice person at a local license buereau outlet (not the big ones, the ones where you visit tellers like a bank, in order of who'se available) they'll overlook it sometimes.
