So the car has every GXL feature excluding the Automatically adjusting suspension, and the wing.

However it has been fitted with blue struts/shocks... I wanting to say they look like tokicos. The center console is gone so I cant say if it had the switches for the AAS.

The car look pretty clean, you could do a turbo swap for probably less than a 4G63.

That would be true if I didn't already have a ton of 4g63 parts. The only thing I am missing for the engine build is a wide block. Plus the 4g63, aside from those 8% or so between 95 and 96, are indestructible.

True, it is indestructible..but I myself am I purist so no cross pollination for me. But it will definitely be an interesting project, they'll be quite a few hurdles for you..and I'm not sure if a 4G63 has been done before.

Truth be told, I've always wanted to see a 4G63 swapped FC :P

It's a damn near industructible motor, makes tons of reliable power, responds well in both turbo and supercharged form (I've only ever seen one supercharged in a German hillclimb video, and it was an Evo VI. That thing SCREAMED and drove like it was literally on rails).

Its been done in at least 1 FD and a couple of FCs. The only problem I forsee other than motor mount fabrication is getting the oil pan to clear the steering rack and cross member, but not sit too low. But we are talking 8 months or so before I even start this swap.

Anyways, I broke my camera taking pictures of the 8s in the back today. FML

I got a bunch of parts and stuck em on there. NGK Wires (damn these things are sexy, numbered and color coded with loom on them allready), wix fuel filter, and a clutch slave to master line.

Then I drove down to B-Ham and picked up a Fan Shroud and Stock air cleaner system from Southsidecox on this forum. Thanks Steve! Best 40$ I spent on the car so far..... On OEM parts lol.

Well I finally managed to get the car back to operational status. Damn beeping from P/S Controller is gone. I fixed a few little minor things. Got the radio harness and speaker leadouts, and amp leadouts/powerwire/control wire installed by the previous owner unfucked.

I took it out today, and wow... Replacing that 25 year old clutch master to slave line improved pedal feel ten fold, raised my pedal engagement height by about 3/4ths of an inch, and the clutch is slipping less. Now it only slips if I really nail it 4th or 5th. I can actually accelerate in both gears now at a good rate instead of shifting late to keep it in the power-band for low throttle acceleration. I have to give it at least 3/4ths throttle in 5th to get slip now.

Here is my insipiration for what it will be one day. :

FC W/ 4g63

FD W/ 4g63

I'm not sure what to say about putting a Mitsu motor in a Mazda... But then again, I am aiming for a LSx build FC. So to each their own I guess. Personally if I am going to drop the money into a swap then I want the best bang for my buck, and to me that is the LS.

Wish you the best on your build.

LS2s are still going for about 4-5 grand though. A 4g63 can be had on the cheap. Even if you have to buy an entire car to get it, you can get entire cars for under 2grand, and part out. A 4g63 can be tuned to output similar levels of horsepower, on stock internals, stock manifolds, and a bolt-on turbo. The only things that really need to be upgraded for 400whp are the turbo, intercooler, and fuel delivery system. Of course you need something to tune with. But DSMLink is only 525$ for the full version.

That really isn't my goal. I just have years of experience with the 4g, love the engine, have tons of spare parts for them. Etc etc etc. They are just as reliable at 400whp as 215 whp. The, just like the rotary get a bad rap that is not deserved.

I don't think he has it anymore, or if he does he does not post on project zero g anymore. Can you contact him for me? I would like to ask him some questions. I am wondering he has any pictures of his motor mounts, and I would also like to know to if he ever solved the shifting issue he was having with the wideblock and turbo-II trans.

Just like everything else over here/ It was hacked together, using whatever was laying around. the shifter came out about a half a foot in front of the stock shifter hole and was at a roughly 50 degree angle tilled backwards if the oem shifter and his shifter in neutral at the same time.

Ah its not the same car as the one I was thinking then. It looks like he used a d-50 transmission. Which makes that out of the question for me. Its gotta clear the dash a bit, I could deal with having to fabricate a center console, but not the entire dash.

Looks like I will looking into a billhousing.

Finally got a new camera.

I had to mold this back together with jb weld. It was broken in 3 places. I also filled in the spaces between the radio spacers. No cracks . Then I hit it with Krylon Fusion for plastics - Textured Black Shimmer.

These came in today. Black Projector Housings H-4. Eventually they will be pulled apart for a set of morimotos. Have not decided if I will use the mini d2s or the mini h4. Got these from newegg.com, for less than 20$ shipped, and they came with h4 non hid bulbs.

I live in Arab Alabama. I just hate chrome. I had to get something for a retro besides the stock stuff. I probably won't be at any rx-7 meets. I might take it out to the DSM/Evo shootout once its done.

The car still lives, and its been my faithful daily since the last time I updated. I finally started driving my talon again last week, still working the bugs out of it, and it still needs paint badly. But the rx-7 is still going strong. Probably be sticking a new clutch in it soon.

RX-7 and Talon together.

RX-7 "Operation Because Racecar"

Loaded the 4g from my talon @ my Engine builder's shop. Yes I totally unbolted the hatch and flipped it on the roof.

Layed the engine down so I could shut the hatch.

Back Home at my shop

Seemed like as good a place as any to change the cam seals and install my t-belt.

And here is a quick glimpse under the hood of the Talon, Yeah it still kinda looks like the pep boys threw up, will be going to a GM 3" maf and ditching the intake, and venting my bov, as well as relocating the fuse box, powder coating my IC pipes, and a few other things once my taxes get back.

Current performance mods to the talon if your interested:
MHI Evo 3 16g
Evo 3 Turbo Mani
Evo 3 o2 housing
3" Turbo back
1g N/T Throttle Body
SS Clutch Line
Exedy Stage 2 clutch
Lightened OE Flywheel
Balance Shafts Deleted
Gates T-Belt
Saturn 105 Alternator
NGK Plugs and Wires
FP 4" Intake
HKS BOV
Glowshift Tinted 7 series boost
LC-1 Wideband
DSM Link V3 Lite
Evo 560cc Injectors
VRSF FMIC.
Poly Engine Mount inserts
Delta 272 Cams
Evo IX valve train.
ARP Headbolts
1g (adjustable) Cam Angle Sensor. (Advance/retard timing up 10*)

Pretty much complete and total frankenstein, GM Maf is going in soon so it will be a mix of 1g DSM, 2g DSM, Evo, GM, and Saturn parts.

Some Thump in the trunk. One 8" in a powered bandpass. Louder than I really need it to be. But I was used to having some base in the eclipse with 4 channel amp powering bigger speakers than what fits in the rx-7.

And finally fixed the headlights. New trim on the pass side, new motor on the driver's side. Plan to shoot the trim with black plastidip. And these headlights suck nuts, only use if your planning to use hids or do a retro.

I do plan on doing a retro, but will putting the stock ones back on for now.
