RX-247? 247sx? I dunno, it sucks in the best way.

I know you all love rotaries for the most part, I do too. I have a 500whp fc that I find very amusing. I also have an 87 TII I started putting a 1jz into, got bored and am now putting a 302 in. LASTLY I have my parts car.

My parts rx7 is an 87, the car is super straight and I had high hopes of building it once upon a time. I purchased it for 400 as a rolling shell with a few mods, exhaust, kyb agx's, all poly bushings, TII brakes and diff, TII hood, s5 tail lights. I then parted what I didn't need out and stole a couple items for my other rx7's. So, basically I ended up with a rolling shell that put money in my pocket. Time to cut it up.....can't....but I don't have a motor for it.

I'm sort of a Nissan guy, more so a Datsun guy. I have 3 Datsun 510's and I really like the ka24de and even the sohc version. I've put them in multiple datsuns over the years. Run good, make o.k power when turbod, ugly, heavy...wait good things...umm cheap. I happened to have a spare ka24de in my garage during the time when I was preparing to cut up my parts rx7. Well...a test fit couldn't hurt right?

So fast forward about a week I have a ka24de in my parts rx7 that runs. I need to build exhaust, have a drive shaft made, and a couple other things but you get in, flip a switch, push a button, and you have a running pile of junk that is most likely slower than stock. Do I love it? Hell yes.

This was all written on my phone I will edit it soon. I hope it makes sense.

Picture of my rotary power rx7. Made 490 on 16psi, now on 20psi.

This is my 1jz car that I'm taking apart to put a 302/t5 combo in for simplicity sake.

Annnnd the ka rx7. So pics aren't really in order. The one with the red hood is the day I bought it in Idaho. It is now is San Diego where I live. The car had an sr20 in it, then a 1jz, now a ka. Downward spiral....

So I guess I should say what my plan for this thing is. I want to get the ka in and working reliably. Eventually I'd like to put a small turbo on it but until then I'm just going to use the car to attempt to drift. With a decent LSD already in the car, all poly bushings, decent brakes, it should make an O.K drift missile. I do want to buy some coilovers for it, currently it's on stock suspension (sold the agx's). The interior is pretty bare. I have a bucket seat from a company called f1spec, a momo steering wheel, and a dash shell. I also left the carpet in the front simply because I like a little sound deadening and let's be honest, it's not like the weight is significant.

I am going to throw in some rack spacers for a bit more angle but other than that I would just like seat time. I do not want to ruin the shell and everything I've done to install this ka is easily reversible if I ever come across a good cheap ls1.

The car will be getting a roll bar and door bars but probably nothing further as I don't want anything near my head. I plan to drive it to events not tow it.

I'm also torn on painting it. I sort of like the derelict look that it has going BUT I have paint left over from some old projects so I might do a scuff and shoot. Any requests for a color?

Wheels MIGHT end up being some Mercedes wheels a friend is donating to the cause with spacers. They are too big for the poor little ka to to spin so I will keep the sweet motegi 16's for drifting.

Certainly a different swap. Haha. KA24s put out a good bit of torque when turbocharged. They get so much hate but I never really understood why.

As for a color request, I would say desert tan. I've always loved colors like that on older cars. Makes the car look tough. Although, I may just be weird and love terrible color choices. Good luck with the rest of the build mate!

Thanks!

Yeah the swap really came to be because I had it and I had the shell. The shell was to either be crushed and recycled, or this.

Desert tan will go on the list of possibilities. I like that color as well!

You have no idea how many times I thought "I should vq an fc". I like those engines quite a bit. My buddy has a couple warrantied long blocks for the oil consumption problem they had. Your fiero sounds like a terrific project!
