Rebuild and Port Choice
Rebuild and Port Choice
Hello everyone,
I removed the engine from my FC a few days ago. Now I want to rebuild it and port it all at the same time. I've never done a rebuild before, but luckily there are plenty of videos to watch. Can anyone recommend a specific video, or can I generally refer to several?
I'm not sure which port I should do. I'm definitely going to install a Haltech 1500 ECU, so it's also possible with a bridge port. What's the best way to go about this? I want to keep the car roadworthy, but still get a lot of brap brap out of it.
What about the half-bridge port? Is that a good compromise?
Unfortunately, I don't know anyone in my area who's familiar with this type of engine. Here in Germany, it's also difficult to get the car halfway street-legal.
Thanks in advance,
Greetings from beautiful Thuringia

I'll highlight the crux of this question: When you mention street-legal, are there implications that porting will void that? I don't know the rules in Germany, but I do know in some places that emissions or "non-standard" configurations will not allow you to pass inspections.
You're right, of course. But I have the option of registering the whole thing as an "engine overhaul." I work as a mechanic in a garage, and the emissions test is done on-site, and that always gets me through, regardless of whether it's actually the case or not. And road legality is a tricky thing anyway. I'm going to replace the catalytic converter with a pipe. Classic cars before '89 weren't required to have a catalytic converter. My personal inspector has already assured me that he'll register it that way. So, I don't need an emissions test anyway. Technically, I have an S4, but I'm still surprised that it's a '89 model.
