My track/weekend build and learning how to paint thread!

Sorry for no updates but we've been busy. This might be exciting for some of you lol. Anyway, as some of you know, JKL abandoned their business and with that went the Odula sides group buy.
So we decided to make our own similar type thing. For all the Hypertek's out there, we did not copy the odula sides. They are not repicas and this is our design :P.
I made them to mount to the s5 sideskirts but I'm sure if you got sorta craftey it would attach to the stock body fine.
These mount back more so that they line up with the wheel well, I was just taking a quick snap of them.
The front part is straight with the body its just my fender is not mounted up correctly.
Of course, carbon is also possible :P

Ok here is where I need help. I am going to need to define the body line on the door because it was dinged in a little with the dent on the door. I pounded them out but I still need to smooth it over. Any advice on how to tackle remaking the body line? I was thinking just getting a lonnng sanding block and going over it across ways but lightly and rocking it with the curve of the line. I don't know if that makes any sense to you guys...
Also, I would get more aggressive with your feathering (if it were me I'd strip it). There's at least 2 paint jobs on that car over the original, generally, you want any feather edging to be as gradual as possible. Ie. where you've sanded through to bare metal, make each layer of paint visible for 1 or 2". It will leave you less work to do in the prep stage, not to mention be less wavey looking in the end.
For the bumpers. Don't use aircraft coating remover. It can be done but get the idea out of your head. Sand all the paint off, no easy way around it (you should be doing this to the whole car with that much paint underneath)
Looks not bad though. Just make sure whenever you get around to finishing it, that you re-sand everything and POLISH the surface rust off of all the cut-through's you've made.

Thanks for the post man. Im going to try what you said and I'll post my results hehe. When you say polish the surface rust, do you mean that sanding it again is not enough? What do you suggest?

So I finally sprayed a guide coat! Here are a couple pics.
Heres the car rolled into the booth. Looks like something out of star wars haha.
Here I am trying to primer lol
heres my friend showing me how its done
almost done with 1 coat
done!
Ill be painting the mouldings, sideskirts, mirrors, overfenders, and sunroof seperately and I'll be doing the door jams and the trunk jam in the final primer spray. And then finally I'll get to install all my canards lol :P
Honestly, my first time spraying sucked. I caught myself fanning at times and I sometimes wasn't overlapping as much as I should. I was also coming farther away from the car sometimes. I guess I just need to practice some more! Anyways, gonna sand 1 more time then spray primer again and then spray the paint finally! I'll keep you guys posted.
