That should work just fine too. I just think for $150 more a Rtek 1.7 gives you a lot of benefits for not a lot of money or work. Secondary crossover RPM lowered, primary duty cycle raised a little, timing retard above 9 psi, etc. But at least you won't run into the same leaning out issues as me with the bigger secondaries. I'm looking forward to seeing it running again!

Hey there, local MN guy here as well. I'm a first gen owner whose car will soon have a second gen TII heart and have done many many hours of research on the subject.
First I'll say hey, it would be awesome to meet up with some of you guys at a rotary meet this summer after the salt is all off the roads.
I've researched this out for the last week or so and I've come to a few conclusions about the Rtek systems (each model is clickable, but the first 3 come to the same page).
Rtek 1.5 - $120 DIY, $140 installed - pretty outdated, but could be used for cheap in a stock car with stock injectors with a few features that would justify the upgrade
Rtek 1.7 - $150 installed only - used for 550cc (stock) primaries and need to upgrade to 720cc secondaries, need to send your ECU into the company to have it installed
Rtek 1.8 - $130 DIY, $150 installed - used for upgrading both primary and secondary injectors to 720cc, same as 1.7 otherwise
Rtek 2.1 - $449 installed - comes with presets to run 550cc/550cc, 550cc/720cc, or 720cc/720cc primary/secondary injector setups, adjustable fuel map, adjustable timing maps, everything the 1 series comes with plus Datalogging through Palm software and is controllable and adjustable by user preference, and the list goes on and on...
The way I'm looking at it is, for $300 more you can get a customizable ECU for half of the cost of a more complicated system, which will result in better tuning and safety when it comes to your engine in the future. The 2.1 is also currently in beta testing for a Bluetooth dongle that you could hide in your dash and connect your phone to via Bt, and tune using the app that is being developed. Here is the thread with updates and such - Official Android Rtek Thread that you could keep track of.
Whew, anyways, looking forward to your build and your engine decisions. I'll keep checking back in.

For mine when I rebuild it, I'm going to get a Rtek 1.7 since I already have a SAFC. The Rtek 1.7 is preset for 550cc primaries and 720cc secondaries, but I'll run with 680cc GSL-SE primaries. I feel that with the SAFC and the Rtek I should be fine running my stock turbo with those injectors. You can run bigger injectors than the presets, just not smaller. When you run bigger injectors than the presets, you just need to turn down the fuel a bit with the SAFC at lower RPM's. You should get the Rtek 1.5 which is preset for 550cc primaries and secondaries, and just run the 680's as secondaries.

If you're interested in meeting up, just come to Sonic on Wednesdays all summer long. There are usually at least a few RX7 owners there and this summer 89FCAlpinoWhite will be there, finally with a running TII.

Haha I planned to go last year but had to work too many Wednesday nights. This summer I'll request Wed nights off so I can make it - I know Jon owns a white FB and he goes, and I think I've seen pics of a black FC - is that one yours? It's a beautiful looking car, whoever owns it.
