My Fc Build thread.=)
Earlier you said you were saving up for an engine....
I took a look at the 2nd pic you posted. Is that a clue as to why you need one?

1/2 way up is pretty damn hot my man.

much appreciated kind sir.
hmmm. well my temp on my car normally sits at 50% to 60% depending on the day. and its been like that and it has never given me any problems since January last year. but i will look into. thanks for the heads up. also as you can see, im still learning about these cars.

The s4 normally sits at 1/4 which is between 185-190, however the gauge is linear (unlike the S5) so halfway isn't a death sentence. Halfway is roughly 210-215*. The highest I've had it was 237* and that was about a needle width from "H". When the engine was broken down recently the coolant seals were all in tact (couldn't say the same for the apex seals, lol)
Beautiful car btw, Thats how you do an S4 right.
You're thinking about S5; which has 3 settings cold (0/4) , warm (1/4) and fucked (1/2 or above)

Halfway on the S5 gauge is around 185-190° and considered normal.
You're right about it not being linear though...it'll sit at 1/2 till temps reach about 215° or so and if it goes higher, you're getting in trouble.
I think it's ridiculous that people depend on either the S4 or S5 water temp gauge when a real gauge is so cheap (VDO Vision series w/ sensor is @$35).

Besides, doesn't it seem silly to explain your car's temp by saying "Oh, it's running about a quarter way up the gauge"...what does that mean?
The S4 gauge is reputed to be linear (I don't know, having a S5) but it still doesn't tell you what the temp actually is, does it?
You have a very pretty car, BTW.

I actually had a vdo gauge, but it was mechanical so I sold it.
