Well, as you know I don't like to raise controversy.... so I'd better just give you what you want.

You happy now?!

I got quite a bit of orange peel in the clear, but its pretty fine.. I think I'll be able to buff/wet-sand most of it out.

Well, all I have left is the chassis...... I should have that sanded and primered next weekend and with any luck, get it ready to finish the weekend after next.

And then... oh yes.. its assembly time. ****. I still need a new oil pump.... gotta order that.

Good eye.. hehe. Because the inside of the doors requires much less attention to detail, I plan on doing it later after the outside has hardened all the way. Why didn't I do the inside first? I honestly couldn't tell you..that was my original plan, but you breath enough paint fumes and you start doing funny stuff. lol.

Stock for now until I have the thing broken in and I can afford such things. Then I'll probably go megasquirt... So I can squeeze as much power/fuel economy as I can out of this NA.

I've spent lots..

My forecast for this weekend calls for finishing up those doors (the backs and such). I should have those done and put away by sunday...

My overall goal is to have the chassis rolled into the booth by end of weekend.

YAY!

quick question are you wetsanding every coat of clear you put on b4 you recoat with more clear? Also +1 on making a how to on how to make your own paint booth.

Be careful with that paint though its going to take around a month or so for it to fully cure before you can take a buffer and wax to it, you dont want it turning all milky colored because you buffed before it was cured. Man i wish i could afford a paintbooth like they have at paint shops that is an oven as well so you bake the paint onto the car =[ makes it so you can wax and buff within a week.

Looks really good man keep up the good work

Actually bake booths like what body shops have cure the clear coat to the point that you can sand and buff them within a couple of hours ( increases productivity for the shop ). As far as waxing goes, you still don't want to wax ( even after baking ) for at least a couple of months. Your clear coat is still breathing and needs 60-90 days before sealing it with wax. Not trying to be a smart *** or anything just letting the facts be known.

No, I'm just laying it on thick in the recommended flash time windows...

All of the pieces I've been painting are coming inside into a room that's almost always 80degrees+ (server room in my house). But yeah, I'm aware of the time period needed before buffing. I won't do that until I'm ready to reassemble. Which will be another 15 days or so. Way more than enough time for most of the pieces. I'll use my discretion for the bumpers, which condensation made foggy anyways. Chances are, I'll have to wet-sand and recoat those anyways.

Looks good man. I someday would also like to strip my vert all the way down and redo it. So how long has this been underway? Keep up the good work.

A LONG time.

Here's an excerpt from my wiki:
03-06-07: Pulled car into garage to begin teardown. Removed hood and inspected engine bay. Everything appears to be solid. I will be taking pictures throughout this teardown/build. I'll post them as I go.

So yeah... 9mo or so since I've driven it.. And trust me. It affects me. I'm a DICK HEAD to people when I don't get my fix. Ask RETed. Hehe

well were kinda both right i've been told both ways but the guys i trust the most have told me its just not worth the risk you run buffing that early and that you want to wait at least a week no matter what and yes with wax no matter what you do even if you bake the car you still have to wait around 2-3 months or it can ruin paint. The place i take my car said exactly what you said but they dont really care that much about churning out paint jobs its more about quality for them so they always err on the side of safetey and man let me tell you their **** comes out BEAUTIFUL.

No offense taken, its better that you clarified what i said somtimes i get ahead of myself and dont realize exactly what i typed until about an hour or 2 later when i read it again lol

Figures you'd have yet again something ELSE that I have... geeze.. I just can't get a leg up.

He's a full siberian husky. He's about 2.5 years old. Got him from a shelter. Great dog.

Here's what I got done over the weekend:

Hopefully the paint will be dry enough to move them tonight... I REALLY want to adhere to my goal of moving the chassis into the booth.

anyways, when did you paint the other side of them doors? i see you have a foam pad lying underneath them...are they cured enough already to do that?? but mine is still not cured yet...ask me i know

by the looks of it yours will be running before mine.
my clutch is acting up and i cant get mine to fire so you may just have one up on me.

Well, at 7months, yours is still very much a puppy.. I got mine when he was over a year old. so he was already almost out of his puppy phase. Don't leave them home alone until you KNOW they are chew-trained. They get bored very easily because they are extremely smart dogs. They will start finding things to do.

anyways, when did you paint the other side of them doors? i see you have a foam pad lying underneath them...are they cured enough already to do that?? but mine is still not cured yet...ask me i know
Last week, and yeah. they are cured enough... the foam I have them laying on isn't abrasive at all either. I've already checked, the paint is fine on the other side... although, its hard to tell.. hehe. it was already pretty orange peeled and will require some wet-sanding anyways.. so, we'll see. After unmasking todays work, I can see that I might have to re-clear the "pretty side" anyways because of the edges.... Don't ask me why I didn't do the inside of the doors first... hindsight is 20/20 I suppose. We'll see how the doors cure outside in the booth in the next hour or so.. hopefully enough to not be tacky anymore.. then I can think about moving them into the garage and move the chassis in..

I haven't even touched the engine yet... or the interior wiring, or interior, or hell.. anything. hehe Trust me, you'll be driving far before I will.

Well, as a last update before I hit the sack.... I met my goal! The car is IN the booth!

The doors moved fine.. the paint was more than cured enough to move, nothing was wrong with the other side and they've been sitting on that foam pad (with the GOOD side masked off with plastic) for 2 days or so.

Anyways, here's the pics!

w00t!
