Merge to rebirth S5 T2 swap 90 RX7
Hello, welcome to my project thread!
As an owner of a 88 RX7, I love to drive my car as stock as it is. Although I wanted to change it into a speed machine, I just enjoyed driving it too much the way it was, so my solution?... Get another one.
They can be a pain to find around here, but I found an add for a crashed 89 t2 parts car. It wasn't what I was looking for, being crashed and all, but I thought I would take a look anyways. Drove an hour to check it out and although it was no longer a road worthy car, a lot of parts on it seemed to be all right and I thought maybe I would get just in case I did decide to swap it with my current car, but it was after I purchased the car from the owner, that he then mentioned a guy just across the road who has an RX-7 sitting there. As you can imagine, I was pretty excited and had to go check it out. Through this junkyard of cars, there it was... A 1990 NA! The body was in great condition, aside from a few cracks. It had been sitting on blocks, no tires, nothing in the engine bay, just a bare block and now it is mine! I had them towed back to my base of operations and began gutting. I had some time this summer to work on it and it has gone fairly smooth so far, just a few head splitters to deal with. let me show you what's been going on with this. I could use some help from the community to help with some issues I have been having.

Now here is the car I will be putting all of it into. I didn't get an interior pics, but if you are wondering, it is a stock blue interior. At this point everything is still very dirty from sitting.
Now, I did order a body kit and slightly wider, vented fenders. As expected, they are not perfect and will need to be worked in. The parts car was a good test subject to see where to make the cuts for a nice fitting... Insight of things to come.
Next thing to do after gutting everything in the red 89 t2, was to out the interior in the white RX and get it ready for the t2 parts.
The things that needed replacing are as follows...
- Coolant Rad
- Air Flow Meter
- The plug on the harness for the airflow was crushed and I need to find a replacement somehow.
- Intake filter
- Complete exhaust
- Coilover set
That is all I can think of off the bat.
I got the Motegi MR7 wheels from my nephew in trade for the two blue seats out of the white RX7 and $50.
I found that the previous owner was running underglow lights, they aren't really what I am into, but they came with it so maybe I will run them still... if they work.
Stripped things down inside the car and swapped the CPU to the N370, just need to get the matching AFM and a new plug head :/
Assuming I am doing the swap correctly, things are going fairly well.
I should mention that I am taking the rear end, driveshaft and transmission from the red one , into the swap. I read that usually you need to get custom driveshaft, but I hope that having the rear end from the same car should make that unnecessary?

Well Some of the body kit is now in the early stages of installation, spent hours cleaning off the endless grime and rust from parts. Not getting a whole lot done, just putting things together. I have a lot of body work ahead of me. I decided I would use the bent fenders on my daily 88 and add the part of the fender I wanted on top of that, why? Because the flange on the fiberglass fender was crooked to a 45 degree angle and I guess this way does make it more sturdy. here is what the early stage body work looks like...

I am pleased with how it is looking, I haven't decided on a final color yet, the white looks good to me. Unfortunately, That Nova in the background is being moved, so I had to pop the engine in and move my car, so I won't be doing a thorough engine cleaning any time soon. with the stock bumper and fenders gone, I had a little present for my daily
Alright, so at this point in the build, I am running into complications. Wiring things up and installing the dash wasn't too too bad, but it seems that when I try to open up the roof, the wipers turn on >
I am not sure what is up, but either I missed something, or this is where the complications in the swap show up.
These might be better to mention in technical threads, but I will try it here to.
I also was wondering if the gauge cluster from the 89 TII, the boost gauge specifically, will work using the NA interior wiring harness (90 NA).
Right now I am running the interior wire harness from the NA and the engine harness from the TII. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Alright so I got the materials together and now the front end has come along. The hood was originally non-turbo style, but we were able to put the scoop from the wrecked red RX7 and I am very pleased with how it turned out.
P.S. For those asking, I am in Vernon, BC.
