GTR's 90 T2 Build
Hello I'm Tommy,
So I'm back after 6 years of not owning a rotary.
After I sold my RX-7, I bought a WRX and was driving that around for a while. That then changed to a 2000 Eclipse Auto. I lost interest in cars in general after driving the eclipse for so long.
I met some new people that were into modding cars so that got me back into it.
I was reading eclipse forums and what people were doing for power.
I was seriously thinking about buying a 3.5L 6G75 and swapping it in for extra power and maybe some excitement.
I just couldn't do it, dumping money into a car thats FWD and Auto.
I figured I would go back to a RWD car and the first thing that came to mind was the RX-7.
I searched around for a S5 T2. Couldn't find one in good shape. Only found N/A's that was in good condition but asking way too much for it. Then I found a S5 T2 not running. In very bad condition.. owned by some punk kid that just ruined this car. The body was half primered, painted over trim, interior was just as worst, and engine hasn't ran in years.
The wiring harness is in terrible shape, vacuum hoses hanging, things were missing and unbolted. Just a mess.
It was a cheap price, so I figured it would be my project car. I would just build it back up again.
My plan was to swap a 2JZ into it. My buddy had a spare engine that need a head gasket that he was going to give me to free. Just sat for a year outside. I had a W58 transmission lined up for cheap so I all I needed was a mount kit and to rebuild the 2JZ.
Since the rotary didn't start, I did a compression test and found out the rear rotor has low compression. 50psi.
So I started removing various things I wouldn't need for the swap and selling it.
I pulled the engine out a few days ago and disassemble the core to see if I can sell the housings, irons, etc..
When I pulled the first iron off and saw that rotor inside. I fell back in love with the rotary. It was full of carbon, sticking side seals, and smelled like ****.
I said **** the 2JZ, I'm going to rebuild this rotary!

First cleaning run to get most of the gunk off and I will re-clean everything again.

I used the wire wheel to remove the carbon that was caked on there.
Then I used a scotch brite pads to clean everything up after. Works amazing. Just a lot of work. I spent about 5-7 hours cleaning. Having a parts washer made it easier to clean the housings. The parts washer would not clean that rotor. Everything had to be manual labor for the rotors.
